Obliterator Conversion

I received an old 1998 Chaos Obliterator in a mini exchange a while ago. I've wanted to do something to it ever since I got it and finally hit on an idea- I'm going to convert him to look like the new style obliterators- with the flesh and muscles flowing around the weapons. My goal is to have this guy converted and painted in time to sell him for Little Angels.

Here's the original:

Here he is after the first round of conversion. I've replaced both arms- the right arm is now the gattling gun you can see in the first picture. I cut apart the left hand's claw and opened the fingers. I also added a barrell to the center of the palm. I also straightened the left arm and ground down part of the chest to add in muscles around the chest cluster of weapons.

This is just bulking out the sculpture- more definition will come after this GS cures:

Here's a clearer side view of the converted arms/weapons:

I have a gun blast that I'm going to add to the palm-gun:

looks good so far, i actually quite like the original model but deffinatly has some room for improvement, especially the face cause thats the part that really let it down.

I don't know the figure but quite like that bloated face! Looks as though he's being squeezed out of his armour :D Maybe fill in the holes in his eyes though so that the pupils can be painted rather than washed in?

Interesting project Cregan :good: Cheers, B.

I've finished sculpting all of the strange muscles onto the Obliterator. It took a lot longer than I expected, but I'm happy with the way he looks:

I cut this off of an extra Ork arm I had- the tendrils will be coming off of the Oblit's left leg, to make it look like he's preparing to absorb this bolter into his arsenal:

Heh. I really like the arm you have still attached to the gun. Nice simple use of plasicard for a bone too. Simple, but effective.

[quoe]What colour is the head gonna be.[/quote]

Which head are you talking about? The Oblit's going to have normal looking skin on his face, and the skull will be painted to look like bone.

Here's the current progress of the Obliterator. I've been highlighting all of the edges starting with a mix of Codez Grey and Chaos Black and shading up to Fortress Grey as my extreme highlight. The face is almost finished- I just have to decide what to do with those freaky Ixian eyes (2 points to anyone who gets that reference).

For a while, I couldn't decide what to do for my Obliterator's base. I recently decided to do an asphalt base for my dreadnaught, and decided to test out the process on a smaller base. It turned out so good that I had to use it. Plus, the broken look works well with this mini.

My original design for this mini involved some tendrils of muscle pulling in another weapon from the ground, but with this base, I'm not sure if it works. I've included a couple of comparison shots- what do you guys think?

Nice, I really am digging that base A LOT...any chance for a quick how to on the asphalt part? The obliterator looks good too--very muscley, kinda frustrated at my computer--it's not letting me see your sculpting WIPs.

id say drop the ork hand thats on the base, not only cause i think you are mean to the poor ork, but i think it look better without it, its a very nice base. great idea though.
