Hiya!

I really dig your style. You seem to use bold strong colors and the minis just POP because of it.

The first mini in your thread here really shows that off.

You know, I bought into the Kickstarter for Zombicide way back in the day, but about the same time I really got burned out with the hobby....So ultimately, I sold the whole set for less that what I paid for it (with all the Exclusives!) I still can't figure out why the hell I did that....but Oh well!

I love what you've done with both of them so far. Again that crisp bright style works so well for those minis!

Just out of curiosity, how do you get such crisp pictures?

Really looking foward to following along. What I realize I have missed terribly since I've been away from CMoN is the community of people who encourage, inspire, teach, razz, and just hang out talking about this hobby.

I'm in a situation pretty similar to you (returning to the hobby after a while off) and I've got to say I'm incredibly jealous of the stuff you are turning out here, and the rate of improvement over the 3 minis.

Once I get to the standard of your first submission I might start my own thread, but for now I'll just have to continue to keep track of your submissions here. :)

Keep up the good work - I particularly like how clean and consistent the paint jobs are looking.

Thanks y'all for the kind words; it means a lot to me at this stage in the hobby.

Supervike, a shame about your Zombicide set; it is quite a fun game even if the figures aren't painted up. But you're doing awesome work on your MHI stuff, so that's some consolation haha. Funny you should mention my pictures; I keep thinking they suck lol and just last night I downloaded GIMP to see if that could help. I only have my smartphone, Samsung Galaxy S6+, to use for a camera at the moment. I jerry-rigged a makeshift lightbox out of a cardboard box, cut holes in two sides and the top and covered those with white tissue paper. I don't have the proper lighting yet but I use what I got for now.

Silasvb - welcome back to the hobby! I know it's a little intimidating with the thought of posting your work on the forums. With all these other great artists on here its easy to think your stuff is not nearly good enough to show. I'm right there with you. I was even hesitant to put up the last couple I have worked on. But what's nice with this forum is the other painters on here are real supportive and helpful, which is awesome. I appreciate the kind words and I'm honestly surprised anybody would be jealous of my stuff haha, since I still think it is sub-par for around here. Now, posting in the gallery is another story, haha. Haven't had the courage for that yet. But if you're having trouble with certain aspects of the painting or questions about techniques, these forums are a great pot of ideas and inspiration so don't hesitate to pick someone's brain. It has helped me immensely. But you probably already know all this since you've been a member since '06 lol. Anyway, I hope to see some of your stuff soon!

Here's some shots of the couple of Zombicide figs I've almost completed. They just need some matte varnish and then some fresh blood. They aren't the best pics; I just took some quick shots before heading off to work this morning. I'll work on getting some better ones soon. I know they aren't the best painted figs around, but I'm sort of proud of them. They'll hopefully be great to play with and I hope my buddies will be surprised and pleased when I unveil them this weekend.

And here's WIP Wanda. I started rushing a little bit last night and got kinda sloppy.

Any critiques and/or comments would surely be appreciated. I know they are not perfect by any stretch of the word and I could use some tips and advice. Thanks!!

Really liking your zombicide minis, I think your skin tones are pretty good. I bet it'll be great to play the game with the minis all painted up especially to a good standard like you seem to be doing. Look forward to seeing more.

Also a quick comment on the thread replies, I agree with most responses. I'd love to comment more but as I'm not massively 'active' I feel the more skilled painters are better to give out the advice and I basically tell people when there's something I like ha. But even then I should do it more. But I too look at more threads than I actually comment on. But at the end of the day just having a thread to show wips and photos is still an encouraging thing I think.

Anyway nice work!

Hello Octavian! Just found your WIP ^^
I think the thing I like the most is how you pick up your colours... Also there is a great improvement from the first miniature to the last pic of the same (the one with green scales and red cape).
This zombicide miniatures are a great practice because they offer a lot of variation for you to practice. When you got the correct dilution of the paint (If you are not quite there, you should be super close! from the last miniatures you are posting) I would say, why not try a little "easy" pattern? some strips, or checkered thing.... ;)

Love the twin-uzi guy. All of these are super clean - maybe benefit from dirtying them up a bit?

also will you be removing the stick beneath her trailing foot? Be a shame to leave it on...

Thanks Sigmar! I really appreciate it. In fact, I unveiled all the painted figures to them over the weekend and they were very surprised and excited, which please me greatly. It was very cool to see the board populated with painted minis; a much more visually enjoyable experience.

Thanks for the kind words Maenas! Yeah that paint dilution thing is an elusive animal haha. I do like painting these figures, even though they don't have super high or complicated detail, they are, like you said, good practice to hone some skills and techniques. I would like to start getting into more freehand stuff like that, just scared to take the leap, ya know?

well done doc oc!!!

Thanks BAM! Couldn't have done it without you!

Thanks Dazzler!! Much appreciated! I have added some fresh blood but I just couldn't bring myself to dirty up that pristine white shirt haha. I thought about removing the post from skatergirl but was worried about the stabilization. Maybe I'll end up doing it afterall. And do the same to all the runner zombies that have something similar.

The current survivor in progress: Elsa. I thought the cat-suit would be quick and easy. But now that I'm thinking about, and how I want to make it look like shiny leather, I believe it's going to be a new challenge for me to surmount. It'll be fun though.

I would like to get/make some kind of urban bases but I don't have any of the tools or supplies to tackle something like that at the moment. So just sticking with what's attached to the fig for the time being.

I'd pictured some of the earlier figures (Phil and Josh) in some kind of desert environment (I had a couple of scenes from Breaking Bad in mind), but the more recent ones seem more and more urban. Then seeing Wanda I immediately thought of some of the pre-made textured urban bases you can get (something like this: http://www.champindustries.net/images/bases/idbases.jpg). They would look great with the skates.

Looks like the minis are attached to their bases at the moment? Their small feet might make it a pain attaching them to a new base without a load of pinning.

Ooo, those are cool bases. That's definitely an option. And yeah their feet are small and thin and I have zero experience lining haha.

If you're reluctant to take them off their current bases but still want an urban base, maybe sculpt in a kerb behind where they're standing. Then paint it up like they're standing at the edge of a road.

Awesome work though buddy!

Octavian80

Oh that's a good idea and sounds relatively easy enough. Would you use green stuff to sculpt or some other product?

Thanks Fox! Means a lot!

[Sigh] Well, I tried to do a shiny leather catsuit type thing with her but that was utter failure, haha. My process was this: laid down a reflection point with RMS Ghost White then glazed over and around it with RMS Twilight Blue. Then I reestablished the reflection point with Ghost White and glazed over that with RMS Snow Shadow. At that point I thought it looked too harsh and bright so I glazed over again with Twilight Blue. I didn't want to over-highlight either so it kinda looks like random spots. Some tips and/or guidance with this would be much appreciated. She's good enough to play with but I'm still considering her a work in progress while I move on to the next one. Got a game night coming up this weekend so I gotta rail through some survivors so they are ready, haha.

The colors look great, but the paint seems a little grainy. Don't know if it is a primer issue or paint is too dry going on.

Octavian80

New member
Yeah Idk why that is either. Something I'm struggling with. It may be because I'm stepping up to a lighter color too fast?
