% of matte medium to juice

lately ive been trying a new technique inspired by sebastion\'s article on painting urmuth, great tut btw :p anyway, my question is not one of how much to dilute my paint but of how much matte medium in a ruff percent or fraction i can add to my juice, glaze, wash, whatever you may wish to call it before it will become a hindrance rather than a boon. atm i tend to use around 1/20 of my mix as medium, i also use slightly soapy water to dilute and 1/15 flow medium, i havent read of anyone using flow medium and matte medium together but im loking the result. anyway, yesterday was the first day id ever used matte medium and it went fairly well. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. sorry to go on at such length :D

cheers, shakes

There is no set percentage as we all use differing amounts of paint and mix in differing quantities. It\'s not as if we can measure 0.3557 ml of paint each time.

What works for Vallejo may not work for P3 paints or GW so it\'s realy down to what you find works best for yourself.

I have my \'magic mix\' which I mix in a dropper bottle (formally holding my wife\'s essential oils, lavender I think. Well washed!). It is 1/2 water, 1/4 matt medium, 1/4 flow improver plus a squirt of drying retarder. That woks well for me in most eventualities. It is all very vague though, I use it for glazes, washes and to thin for blending/feathering.

I only add neat medium to inks, which I don\'t use so much anymore...

thanks guys, much appreciated, i like the sound of the last mix but i was more after a boundary line, i know everyone has there preferences and it all depends on paint but i imagine some people in there experimentation have put to much in and had negative effects. or maybe they havent...has anyone tried mixing paint with straight medium to have sort of a gel juice, in thin lairs im under the impression that the medium should dry clear. it might give an interesting elvel of control...anyway, thanks again

Yes, a long time ago when I first got matt medium. It does not work. The whole point of juices, glazes and washes is that it is very dilute and gives a subtle effect.

The only other use for non-dilute matt medium is for sticking ground work on. It dries matt, PVA does not.

But the moral of the story is, have an experiment and see what works for you.
