With a crack like the one about the plate you are accusing someone of being sick and twisted? Methinks the pot is discussing the color of the kettle. :p

your welcome....

Thats just one of my services, making sure everyone has enough posts to be considered a \"freak\"

I was thinking of starting the :

OPPOSITE WORD ASSOCIATION thread, where you say the exact opposite of the previous word, but I am afraid that would be enough to ban me from the forums!!!

now that would be interesting... start with say \"black\", and then someone would say \"white\", and then someone would say \"black\", but then someone else would have to be smart and say \"lightened bleached bone\", and not to be out done, another person would say \"darkened armour wash\", etc...

How long would it take to get to \"Sex\", \"Marriage\"?:D:D:D:D:D

Dauber,
Speaking of wastes....
I\'m sure everyone has seen the NASA pen that writes underwater, no gravity etc, etc.
the government spent millions on developing these pens.

The russians used a pencil.

That\'s actually an urban legend.

Initially both the USA and Russia used pencils, but the leads break and having pieces of carbon floating around near electrical equipment is a bad thing.

Fisher himself developed the pen in response to what he saw as a need for a zero-g writing implement. ALl of the development costs were paid for by FIsher, the U.S. goverment just bought the pens.

Snopes has the full story here http://www.snopes.com/business/genius/spacepen.asp

Cheers - Rab.

Ready Mades

Ok, here\'s the deal with the ready mades like that shovel someone posted earlier. Their a joke. Its funny, you should laugh at them thats the whole point. You know when you say a word over and over again untill the meaning becomes secondary and you just listen to it for the sake of the way it sounds? Isn\'t it funny? Say the word \"dog\" out loud thirty times and if you dont laugh find a word that will. It\'s funny becouse its taken out of it\'s usual context. Like when you read you dont sound out every word in your head, you just see the word and recognise the concept that it potrays. So by taking a shovel out of context (or a urinal) people begin to think about not why it was made but how it was made. Another reason why its funny is becouse back in the day when the dadaists first started to do this whole readymade thing, they were saying the exact same thing about the art world that you all are saying. They were ridiculing art and the pompous attitudes of that corner of society. It\'s funny, laugh. And when people scold you, raise your nose and wave your cheap wine in the air as you scoff \"you just dont get it\"

Welcome to the forums, necromanticangel. It\'s so nice to see someone with an appreciation of dadaist art in it\'s original conception.
Unfortunately, since then too amny people ahve either a) taken it seriously or b) seen it as a major vehicle for ripping ignorant people off.

A friend of mine took art at Sheridan and also George Brown. (Assuming we\'re talking about the same Sheridan College, in Ontario.) Apparently, part of his commercial art class (I can\'t remember at which school) was learning the fine art of bullshitting. The instructor\'s logic was along these lines - a couple of similarly talented artists apply for a job. Assuming the client has no particular taste preference between them, he\'s more likely to go for the one who can spin a great spiel about the meaning and symbolism and all of that. So the students were required to present their assignments with a spiel, whether or not they felt it was true.

necromanticangel hits the nail on the head, methinks. And I erred by making found art and Dada sound more Serious than it actually is. Which is not to say it does not have *meaning*...

...care to elaborate more?

Somethings are considered art to me and somethings never will and somethings maybe art in the future...

so what if people down the road calls it art and i call it shit now? its a matter of opinions. but it becomes sad when that \"matter of opinion\" is based on a annual publication of social conformity.

a red line maybe art to someone...that\'s fine. to me it\'s crap. simple. to the third person, its art cos everyone consider it art or the fashionable way to behave is to consider it art. that\'s why called it \"farty\"

cavemen drawings can never be art to me...or else many 3 years old are artists too. its a form of expression...agree....just like any 3 years old expressing themselves or a madman expressing himself or a rapist expressing his lust. art isn\'t an expression of the human emotions...lest everything is called art. now that\'s interesting...

Somethings are just insanely simple, and quite stupid in my opinion. I enjoy some \'art\'. Like the performance art craze, the peices look absolutely insane on their own, but If you\'ve actually seen it made it\'s like going to the circus!

What we need to do, is get a nice tiger tank, get some of those paint filled tank rounds like from Kelly\'s Heros, and declare war on the modern art museums.

A lot of times there\'s an intresting story behind the art peice. Like the lady in Navada who makes murals from sheetmetal with C-4, or the woman who adds the cremated remains of her clients loved ones into the paintings.

You gotta remember that in all the crazyness of \'art\' there\'s a lot of good modern art. Not just the idiots who where black turtlenecks, kakis and berets everywhere.

Ok, this is not art, this is crap - http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/040325/481/cop80203251619

Edit - the artist is the same arsehole who put goldfish in blenders and invited people to turn on the blenders. While I have only one good use for goldfish (feeding them to Oscars) that still dont count as art in my book.

First post ;)

Hi everyone, I just had to put my first post here as the topic is so interesting ;)

When I was still in school, we talked about a painting of a black square on qhite ground. I was told the following: \"Durch seine schiere Existenz kratzt das schwarze Quadrat neckisch an den Stützpfeilern unserer Gesellschaft.\" (\"By its pure existence the black square fiendishly scratches at our society\'s foundation\").

I thought this was so stupid, and yet funny in its own way, that I told my teacher that I did notget it at all. It was just a freaking square, after all! I was told that is was something special, something great, because people looked at it, loved it, even prayed in front of this thing.

Now, I\'m not as stupid as I look. A month later we had to create some piece of art in 3d, we were free to choose what to do exactly. My sadistic brain forced me to create the most vile and evil piece of art ever made: The Black Square - the Action Figure©

OK, thinking about it it was just a piece of paper folded into a cube and painted completely black, but I did it. My teacher was flabberghasted: \"What the hell were you thinking? That has no meaning at all!\" I related it to the black square we saw before, but she would not listen. So, I got a friend to help me and convinced him to kneel down in front of it and pray lol

I got my grade changed to an A afterwards. And after giving her \"The black Square - The Comic book©\" she agreed that I took a piece of art and made it more interesting :p

Now THAT\'S art lol
