Ogress from Eastern Front Sutdios

What can I say, I\'m in love with this 4\" tall Ogress from Eastern Front Studios, a part of their Dungeon Crawl series. This was my first attempt at serious three tone flesh, and my first attempt at glazes to get skin tone and the wet t-shirt look. Somehow it seems more subtle to the naked eye than it does to the camera under two reveal bulbs.

Hiya Tzor...

I think this is a definate improvement over some of your earlier stuff.

I\'ll give you some criticism, but I don\'t want to come across as a know it all, so forgive me if I do...

The flesh tones are pretty good. I think another round of highlighting would help though.

I think darklining the flesh areas (where the flesh meets other materials) with a thinned deep brown would really help.

The eye I think is what turns this into more of a \'cartoony\' look than what it deserves. The eye should be about half that size, and maybe not use a stark white for the \'white part\' of the eye. A ivory possibly. A thin dark line around the eye would give it much more definition and decrease the size.

The wet t-shirt look works.

A dark wash for the fur and also on the club would help bring out definiation as well. I think for a mini to be effective you really have to exaggerate those little details.

Keep at it, you are definately getting better.

I think your current CMON score after 13 votes is fair at 4.5. I think viewers would be looking for more highlighting/shading and greater attention to detail, especially the eyes and the fur. With a greater use of layer/blending you can make a big difference; the mini would then \"pop\".With so much skin on the model, this was an ambitious project requiring lots of practice. You did well to get into three tones but more are needed.

Great attempt at a wet tee-shirt type effect!

I agree about the darklining, it would really help to add some deffinition to this piece. As would some selective washes with a warm dark brown, especially on the club.

Your skin work is comming along well, remember that it doesn\'t really matter how many colours you use on skin (I\'ve seen fantastic skin done with just 2 colours), it\'s the variations in tone and the placment of highlights that create a good looking piece.

I would like to thank everyone who voted and left comments here and on the page. I am slowly in the process of tweaking the mini. I added a bone white wash to parts of the eyes and will work on getting the eye to appear smaller. I\'ve added some darklining and will also work on the highlighting.

I\'ve added something else as well, oddly enough the only thing that I noticed and no one else mentioned. The sloppy nail painting on her right hand looks like a slopped white all over the area. I took some brown ink between the fingers and boy does that glaring mistake look better now.

When I get a few improvements I\'ll post my post progress here. Once again thanks!

Progress Report

As suggested I darked the eyes a little with a glaze of bleached bone, added a few more layers to the skin, did some highlining and used ink on the fur and the club. I also fixed the fingers by adding ink to the club between the fingernails and I started trying some fancy paint on the base to get a more interesting appearance there. This is the result.

The image is the same just two different levels of magnification.

Still have some more work to do.
