Not rude at all. I put it up there for a laugh. Happily married going on 9 years now so the numerous painful-at-the-time rejections are there to laugh at.

I have to get very drunk before divulging the exact circumstances of meeting my wife, but I can say something. She was very reluctant to go out with me and told me she was basically prepared to mace me on our first date. I stunned her by being a sweetheart and total gentleman. She didn’t expect that from a long-haired goatie-wearing freak in battered army fatigues and a fonzie-jacket. Turns out quite a few of the women I met in college later told me they were scared of me when they first met me.

My grandpa still had his army fatigues for a while after he met my grandma, he threw \'em out a few years after my dad came along. He had a pair of boots that he was apperntly saving for me and they ended up being eaten by something.

its my excuse as to why Florida boys are so ridiculous ;)
It explains men!

Men find it extremely difficult to look women in the eyes whe they are wearing a bikini.
There seems to be an immense \"Gravitational Well\" which forces the focus of the male eyeball to be dragged downward.
I suggest that there needs to be a full scientific investigation into this phenomena. :innocent:

A friend in college once asked me why the women students got so much better looking in the Summer months. I had to point out that he was no longer looking at their faces.

I know how you feel James. It\'s happened once to me, and over a year later she still hates my guts for daring to ask

Actually, DON\'T. As they say, people don\'t eat where they $#!7. Meaning, if you are the sensitive, understanding guy she can tell her sorrows... that\'s what you stay. The guy she will call to for support when she\'s dumped next time... and next... and so on. And you will be there. \'Cause you\'re, you know... a FRIEND, not a BOYfriend. So, if you think you\'ve enough friends, don\'t do that. Bad karma. Just home in and get her. You can get to know her from there on.

my 2 cents

Yes and no, generally I agree with this, but then I also I have a story where it worked out big time. Met a girl (russian girl, accents get me every time), asked her out, she says no, she has a boyfriend back home. Anyway, this is just at the start of a summer in college, we\'re both staying in town, the majority of both our friends are leaving, so I figure just being friends is fine, so we hang out all summer and get to know each other, have fun, and basically forget the fact I asked her out to start. THEN at the end we decide to go camping to celebrate before school starts. Anyway, you do the math, 1 guy + 1 girl + 1 tent + beautiful natural park setting = good things. Ended up being a really nice 3+ year relationship with a beautiful russian girl with an accent...did I mention the accent?

However I think KEY to the process is you also NEED to not do it becauce you\'re hoping to date them later, but rather honestly do it to be a friend. Once the dating thing it out of your mind, the friendship can develop and grown naturally and equally, and who knows where it may lead. But if you still have the thought you\'re trying to be friends just to build up to a relationship, it likely won\'t go the way you\'d like, either as a friendship or relationship.

Try being the \"nice, safe\" guy that parents LOVE but women just shy away from!

True story: Many years ago -I\'m old- I was walking home from visiting my parents when a car pulls up and it\'s an old schoolmate of mine named Kathy. Now, I\'d had a crush on Kathy since like the 7th grade. This is now 7-8 years later, and she had dated one of my best friends in high school 4 years prior. She offered me a ride home. Now, I could walk like I normally do, or accept a ride from an old acquaintance who happens to be a beautiful woman...hmmm, what to do?;)

We were catching up on the ride home, and somehow something I said -I still can\'t remember, but it wasn\'t anything direct, as that was NOT me, caused her to say: (and I quote)

\"Oh, I can\'t talk about sex with you, you\'re too nice.\"

She said something else about that would feel weird or something, I\'m not sure, as we had just arrived in front of my apartment building and I was dumbfounded, trying to figure out why she thought I was talking about anything like that, and the fact that I realized I had no chance of even dating her because I was too nice of a guy?
???:wow:???

Who knew that could work AGAINST you?lol

Here\'s some interesting tidbits I found, just to help you guys out: ;)

\"Women do want to date their fathers. Or, at least, date someone who smells like him. In one study by geneticist Carole Ober, female subjects were asked to sniff t-shirts of various scents and then state their preferences. Over and over again, subjects chose the odors that closely matched those of their dads. So, guys, if you make it to a \"meet the parents\" moment, take a peek in their medicine cabinet, and splash on some of Dad\'s aftershave to seal the deal.\"

\" Don\'t let your married friends weigh in on your love life. Think your hitched pals can help you detect good chemistry with a date? Um, no. Science has revealed that your married friends are clueless when they try to give you dating advice. In one study, psychologist Frank Bernieri asked 168 subjects to watch video clips of couples and rate how in love they were. Subjects who were in relationships guessed wrong again and again compared to their single peers. So the next time your friend with the rock on her finger waxes poetic on the intricacies of your love life, smile serenely and then get a second opinion.\"

\"Adrenaline is the new oyster. Skip the shellfish, and do something daring to bond with a new honey. Research by Arthur Aron and Donald Dutton shows that adrenaline ups our interest in a potential mate. Male subjects in the study were asked to cross two kinds of bridges (one shaky, one sturdy) to talk to an attractive female \'researcher\' giving a questionnaire. Upon completing the task, the woman gave each subject her phone number. Those subjects who met the woman on the shaky bridge were more likely to call and more likely to ask her on a date. The reason? The exhilaration of being in a risky situation rubs off on the person you\'re with, so if you\'re looking for some instant sparks on a date, try something a little scary (roller coasters, scary movie, or white-water rafting, anyone?).\"

Good Luck!
:D

Excellent advice, Duende. I\'d just add that probably listen even less to your friends who used to be married :D

Oh, and from the other side:
Women, forget all those horrendously expensive perfumes. A recent study of men showed that the scents they were most attracted to were: cinnamon buns, pumpkin pie, soap, and baby powder.

and in THAT order, so single girls, start baking! (important note, don\'t eat everything you bake as that will cancel the effect)

dude, rejection sucks, but you\'d better get used to it (no offence) the horrible thing with the whole dating thing is that although sometimes they let us think it\'s the other way around - WOMEN ARE IN CONTROL!!

Yes, you\'d better get used to hearing \"no\" because some day you will need to find a job.
Not that I\'m saying anything about you personally, but on average you have to hear a lot of nos for every single yes.

Hmm, well lets see.

Happens man. I do agree with the thought that getting used to hearing no is a good idea - it will happen a lot in your life.
