regiments... I guess something like this:
CARROT METHOD:
Paint 5 - reward - paint a character
paint 10 - reward - paint a lrage piece
STICK METHOD:
When you get tired, put down the brush, stop for a cuppa, or yawn - get someone to hit you with a stick (But not near your hands or eyes which are needed for painting!) lol

Always keep a collection of minis that are not for your army around. When you get sick of painting units for your army paint one of these.
Pick up some things you just think look cool.
For these purposes I own a whack of Rackham stuff, some Fairy Meat Stuff, and a small selection of Reaper Warlords line.
Have to admit, I still haven\'t finished any armies yet, but I paint maybe one figure every quarter anymore.

a whore will always make more money than a drug dealer as she can wash her crack and re sell it!
:|~I tend to go with a base coat on rank and file to begin with, basic colours, with no highlights.
May seem a bit harsh but if you dont varnish them, they will look regimental and hopefully tidy and you can highlight/shade and do more detailed work at a later date when you have the time.

A lot depends on what units you are painting. A while back in White Dwarf there was a great section on painting Mordor orcs using brown basecoat, basic colours and overall ink brown ink wash to speed the process - I guess you might be able to do something similar with other armies to get a reasonable looking force.

I used to paint stoned (when I was a druggy! )but while sometimes it would get you into the zone usually I just ended up playing Tenchu for 8 hours straight! lol
