Ok what\'s the deal?

Actually I disagree, when you look at the top scorers here, they all have a lot of talent, but it is actually quite random what scores very highly. I\'m not going to name anyone, but I can think of some 9+ scoring minis that technically are NOT that well blended when you look at them, yet they have ooodles of \"wow\" factor and thus score highly.

And thats where I think posters are going wrong, people seem to think this is \"Technically Briliantly Painted Mini or Not\". Its not.

Obviously there are some painters that are clearly at the top of their field at say blending or freehand, but what really seperates the top 100 is how much \"wow\" factor they have.

Another thing that I noticed, is that the top scoring minis are getting 9.8 with thousands of votes. To me that means that snipers don\'t really have an effect on minis, people are voting what they think the mini is worth.

What does cool mini or not really mean?

what does it mean? I think people have kind of turned this site into \"is your mini well painted or not\". I personally vote on how \'cool\' i think a mini is. I give some models which are 8\'s (in terms of the painting level) 10\'s because i personally think it was a cool conversion, or other reasons, such as originallity

Surely not. My Blob is neither cleanly painted nor does he (he\'s more than an it for me! He\'s my buddy! ) have equal or clean eyes/pupils. He scored higher than I would have ever imagined nonetheless and is higher than my other mini, Gragg Elfslayer, which as I think bears the best metal I ever did on a mini. I suppose people see the blob and think he\'s cute, funny or something like that, and vote him relatively high because they think he\'s relatively cool. Those that think he is painted well, please report to the doctor\'s office immideatly

Also, I personally vote on \"how cool\" I think the mini is. If the paintjob is outstanding but the sculpt reeks to high heavens, I don\'t give high scores.

This site has always been about painting IMO. Nothing has changed at all.
Some people would argue that this site has actually been turned into \"is your mini well sculpted or not\".
The bottom line is, always has been, and always will be; how cool is the overall effect?
A painted turd will still be a turd, a five star sculpt will boost even the most dick-fingered painter\'s score.....
It all boils down to; are you doing this for enjoyment, or competition?

i don\'t know about that... from the comments my poor minis get it\'s \"is your mini technically painted purfect, have a perfect scuplt, have any extra/special sculpting done by me, have oodles of freehand, etc... etc... on it?\" It would seem you need to paint a 10 mini to take a picture of a 9 mini, to get people to vote 8s so your score comes out to a 7. That being said, i must be painting 8s \'cause all i ever get is 5s!lol

coolness=high scores...

I happily give higher scores to minis I think are just plain cool.

Unfortunately, it seems to be a bit undefinable.

A mini can make me say \"wow\" for lots of reasons, paint and sculpt being two.

But also there is:

conversion work
diorama idea
conveying character
clever application
freehand

the list is ever evolving, but it does just boil down to

Cool? or not...

I agree with you Super, coolness is what it\'s all about. And coolness is in the eye of the beholder
