Old NMM shocker! GW/Eavy Metal firsts!

Who would have thought, that all the way back in issue 106 of White Dwarf (1988), NMM would be strutting its stuff in Eavy Metal! Before pubic hair was even a thought to me, before girls made my body do weird things, WD contained paint-jobs using NMM! And we all thought it was a relatively new thing

Anyway, here it is...tenuous but true:

I was married already, for about a year, and my son was born in \'88. Probably why I don\'t have any gaming material from those years, it was the \'Dark Ages\' for me.

I remember this being discussed someplace else, the fact that NMM first made its appearance in the realm of GW.

I\'ve got quite a collection of GW books and WD magazines from that era. It would be fun to see if I could spot some other examples too.

I\'m still waiting for that pubic hair thing. lol

Could be a goblin, GW used to have all sorts of quirky minis before they geared everything to being a specific part of one of their preordained armies.

Interesting note* At the time the Studio Manager was Tom Kirby the now CEO of GW ltd.

I believe that NMM is an older technique then real metallics in figure gaming. Not sure though, as I don\'t know how old this hobby is. I think my first notable encounter with it was the blood angels \"golden helmets\" assault marines. They were done by Mcvey if I remember correctly. Another NMM I really remember was in GD97 were Ben Jefferson paintined an extraordinary Dark Angels chapter master.

Look at this from 88 http://demonwinner.free.fr/winner.php?id_categorie=578 that looks like NMM.

Actually it is a conversion based on an old LOTR Uruk Hai figure. I have one.

That link to the GD winners is amazing, those minis look like total crap compared to current models, I\'m floored.

i dunno about that... im just thinkin... then it was more about the game and not the painting and as new paint formulas came about and more contests and what not they just got a higher level of what a good model is....

I know this may shock some people, but GW did not invent toy soldiers. They\'ve been around since the bronze age. Painting them since the middle ages and at an art form level since the napolianic era. And Revrend\'s mystry figure is most definatly a space ork conversion. Back then the wacky guys at GW encouraged not only converting but using bits from models and toys GW did not create! Can you imagine? The Horror, the horror...
