I think their market is also different. They cater more to either the collector/painter or the fantasy roleplayer markets, rather than the wargames market. Its also difficult to get into the background fluff, which in other systems helps to generate discussion, because there isn\'t any fluff! Having said that, I have bought most of their dragons and some of their other figures such as the lupines and the griffon and they are very good value for money.

Reaper also pays a lot of attention to their customers, which is one of the reasons I like them so much. Reaper keeps a discussion board, and some of the moderators will frequently ask individuals for input on product.

I remember I was discussing Games Workshop\'s sketchy policies on the Reaper board, and I made some comment about how I hate the company, but they make several products that most other companies just don\'t; I hate buying things from them, but sometimes they\'re the only option. For instance GW is the only company I know of that makes easily customizable figures with interchangable parts - especially in 54mm. So one of the Reaper guys mailed me, and asked what I would like to see Reaper do with their line so I wouldn\'t have to go buy from GW.

It\'s not really that big of a deal, but it really means a lot when a company asks a lone consumer what they can do to better please that one consumer.

Reaper just keeps making the right stuff, and maybe its just me, but it doesn\'t seem to have the \"impact\" the other major manufacturers have.

I think they have some of the best sculptors, ideas, and customer service of all the majors, yet they just don\'t seem to get the \"respect\" they deserve.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that?

Know what the problem is? :D There\'s very little to bitch about with Reaper!:D Nice figures, good customer service, good prices, no game so you can\'t bitch about the crappy, stupid, unfair rules!

No wonder they don\'t get any respect or generate any buzz. They\'re too good!:duh:

Well, not to disagree with you here Dauber but they do actually have 3 games that I can think of out there - the only difference is that they actually took some time to put out a working system, not one that they were going to make multiple changes to so they could make more money.

Thats the thing though dauber, they do have games. None of them are big sellers though. If they could put a bit more money and effort into pushing the games I think Reaper would about explode market wise. As it is I\'ve met tons of gamers, both role players and wargamers, that haven\'t ever heard of Reaper.

I personally love Reaper minis. As I am more of a painter/collector, I don\'t have time to play the games anyway! I am a little bored with Garrity\'s usual female minis, but she has recently put out some really nice work. And Werner Klocke is my new god; I love everything he has done!

Okay. Let me ammend my statement.:D

They have games that not enough people know about and even fewer actually play, therefore nobody bitches about the capricious, vague, unbalanced rules or that they actually have to keep buying new codexs for.

I agree that if they had some good games, they\'d probably be more popular. It\'s really too bad that they are going \"under appreciated\" as I think they are a fine company and getting better.

The entirety of my previous comments were intended to be tongue in cheek alluding to the fact that some of the most popular topics ever in these forums (ok, discounting sex) are ones bitching about GW for (fill in the blank).;) I\'m beginning to believe firmly that one of the signs of success is people bitching about your imperfections or explaining, with dire seriousness, how your company is evil incarnate.

You know, if they corrected the capricious, viscious, unbalanced rules that are in the game books, then they couldn\'t make extra cash - From what I\'ve read of the beta\'s Reapers Games are fairly balanced. Course, I\'m the guy who likes 4 and 5 page simple rules systems

I\'ll be generous. I\'ll give \'em up to 125 pages for a rule book. I just want it to encompass the use of almost any mini I want, No cards  No exotic dice - D6\'s only (prefferably somewhat less than 100!!!) Is this asking too much ???

Oh! And I want 2 games like that: one for Fantasy and one for Sci-Fi

Thats what I like about most of the simple ones - they use 6 siders and are simple as home made sin - and almost as much fun. :D

That is a great mini... I think that is another to add to the collection :)

I too have little time to play the games, so I buy and paint Reaper stuff purely for the fun of it. I don\'t like all that they do, but I do like most of it.
They do such a diverse range that you can throw together a scene or diorama to depict almost anything you want, which is something I like to do.

I also have to confess to liking the idea of simple systems that are quick and easy to play.

But you are not a true roleplayer unless you have many, many dice of different shapes, colours and sizes.:p

Check out Black Lightning

Reaper has started a program to recruit gamers to promote thier games. I just signed up, so I can\'t really tell you guys a lot about it. I do know that if you are dedicated to playing thier system and promoting thier products, they have free stuff for you. Clink on the Black Lightning link on the bottom left of the Reaper homepage at www.reapermini.com.

I signed up to promote thier painting stuff (I run a painting clinic already) but I\'m thinking about getting a CAV starter kit. It\'s a couple of battle mechs, rules books and dice for $40.

When you sign up for Black Lightning, you get credits to buy stuff to promote your favorite game. You also get a T-Shirt. But you have to have three demos scheduled at a gaming store or other venue in advance of your application.

SO - if you guys REALLY think that it\'s a shame there is no promotion for Reaper products and intellectual properties, here\'s your chance to do it yourself. Just tell them Cerridwyn1st sent you, as that is also my handle there.

Reaper - Likes and Dislikes

What I like about Reaper:

1. Free mag every three months with all their stuff currently in production. Includes instructions on how to mount their stuff on larger bases

2. Lots of character minis to choose from, most under $4

3. Nice scupts from some of the best artists in the business

4. Reasonably priced line of brushes and paints. Paints include a shaker bead (shaped like a skull) that helps agitate it.

Things I don\'t like about Reaper:

1. They sell Keadatite (greenstuff) through their website, but even retailers who carry their line don\'t necessarily know this, or carry it in stores.

2. Too many of the sculpts look like others, with just a part or two changed. Some of the newer sculpts look like they are trying to make stuff to go along with the product of other companies, like GW and Rackham.

3. Paints and brushes have the same problem as GW - lidded pots dry out, brushes get trashed in nothing flat. But at least the stuff is cheaper than GW.

What would I like to see changed? I love the really creative stuff they have put out. The Werner Klocke Faries come to mind, as does the new Lion Dragon figure. More, please!

How about packaging paints in a scaled-down flip-top bottle, like Plaid uses? Die-hard paint out of the bottle or lid users would still be happy, but us drip-drip pallet users would be thrilled, too.

A line of sable brushes, like what Vallejo has, would be great, too.

I hate to admit it, but I\'ve got dice older than some of the people who post here, and they are in odd shapes and sizes. Does that make me a real RPG\'er Kat? :D
