On feathering and washing for improvement

Hi all,

I have got a question about washing, I am still a very mediocre painter as I do most of my minis like this :
prime, base colours (I've painted a lot of minis so I know the glitches of some minis so all this goes well),
then I highlight, I wash and repeat the last two steps.

The question is if washing multiple times after highlighting is an OK technique as much paint coats are involved and maybe I should do it in one go and use shading also ? If you could help me improve from this point on I'd appreciate any comments. Here's an old picture of such a finished mini :

Thanks in advance,

Picture's kind of blurry, but when it comes to washes, a lot of people go back and touch up the highlights after the wash dries. Also, if you're worried about buildup of paint, thin it first. I'd do that anyways.

Don't forget you can use pin washes even on figures - just for that specific area you require to shadow etc.
