Once again \"It\'s my best paintjob yet\" !

GreenOne

I paint my thumb.
Yeah, I know I always say this:p
But I think it\'s true, this time. It was also my most enjoyable one, painting always make me happier.

Anyway here she is, judge for yourself and please do comment.

Good job, I see definate progression.
I think it could be improved though in the following ways:
More tonal contrast in general, especially on materials that are highly reflective, such as chicks hair, (check out the shampoo ads on the tele for an idea)
More definition between different areas. i.e., where her leg meets the horse, a bit more shadow or black lining would be good to separate the areas.
Hope you find the comments helpful, that\'s my intention.:)

Yeah, the scores are regressing though.
I\'m thinking about retiring from the voting system, I really think it\'s unfair now, I\'ll just post pics in the forums instead.

Anyway, thanks for the tips I\'ll put them to good use.

I really don\'t think the scores are very representative, but I wouldn\'t stop posting them. I see great minis getting average scores, and average minis getting 9\'s. But on the whole I think most of the scores are overly generous and people need to apply tougher criterea, 10\'s should be few and far between, I think it\'s a good idea for people to have a look at the top 10 before they start voting, helps put things into perspective, otherwise the scores will end up being just a waste of time.
The most important thing Greenone is that you are developing, which you obviously are.:)

a 5 or 6, the lack of contrast makes it kindof blurry (beige horse, light green clothing and beige/reddish skin), some black lining or darker color on the clothing may improve the look of it

Nice work G1. Dont dispair about the voting. It is a very subjective thing. You are improving and that is important. Ive been watching your stuff over the last couple of months and the improvent in your work is very apparent. Posting in the forums is good but it also helps to see what the general public like. They tend to vote higher for very high contrasting minis.

Keep at it. At this rate you\'ll be golden demon in 12 months. Love your work

Nice colors and your detail work is really improving. :)
I\'d say work on getting a smoother transition between layers of highlights (especially the lady\'s skintones), and definitely work with darker colors in the recesses. If you\'d rather not blackline, try to imagine how much of a shadow would be cast on certain areas. For example, the top of the lady\'s dress would in real life cast a shadow on the skin around it (her collarbone, chest...)...and the lady herself would also cast a shadow line on the saddle right around her...and her hair on the horse\'s back... So try keeping the recesses a few shades darker than the middle highlight.
I\'ve been wanting to try see-through garments, but haven\'t been able to yet. You did a nice job. I love to see your work; keep posting, Greenone! :)

See that\'s what I meant^^

Anyway, I\'ll try to do better next time, for contrast and such.
Yes, I\'ll keep posting, but I wish we could post pictures without the voting option which lately has been just insulting for me.

I\'ll see you all around the next mini, thanks again folk^^

ooooh! i likey! great job greenone. you are getting absolutely ROBBED on your score.
i see a few things i would change, but first id like to address the contrast issue. sure, its more \"standard\" to have minis super contrasy. hubbabbubbas comment rings true - HOWEVER this is representitive of \"hyper-reality\" and the most typical paint job. the hair you see on an ad is not what most real hair always looks like. i think you have a distinct, very....soft, style with lots of neutral tones, and that is why i like them. maybe add a lil more contrast to apease the masses, but dont cange your style completely and become like every other painter.

this brings me to my crits - the socks man! they stand out way to much, and draws the focus of the eye away from the \"action\" (the woman and head of the horse) detracting from the minis compositional elements heavily. second - the boarder between the horse and the right leg of the woman needs some shading to distinctly seperate the two and cover any overlap of color. the feet thing is the big-un though.

edit: nice base btw.

Sorry I was in a bad mood earlier I\'ll adress the commentaries now :)

maybe add a lil more contrast to apease the masses, but dont cange your style completely and become lik every other painter.

This is exactly what I\'m looking for, I can\'t neglect the general opinion if I ever want to be on the competition scene, but I really want to keep the \"historic\" side of my painting. Once everyone know my name this won\'t hurt the scores anymore ;)
I\'ve seen many painter who did very well in that direction lately.

I often try to go for some darklinings, shaded areas, and extreme highlights, but It always end off looking odd, this might have to do with me having a lot left to master on transistions, smoothness, opacity control, and so on. So I either repaint or tone it down with glazes, and end off with this result.
I also lose definition because of mishaps and battle damage due to bad manipulation, a lot of that on this one, sheer I had to retouch that lost it\'s smoothness in some place is a good example.

The feet are a bit off I agree, especially on the pics, but shes a woman, she made me buy them :D
It kinda pisses me to make such a big composition mistake, since this is the one thing I kind of take for granted.

I\'ll get a better pic of the base, I\'m quite proud of it and it\'s out of focus on the montage. I\'ll get a few more materials to make the next ones even better.

Finally, I\'m still in a practice zone, when I aim to acomplish neat things and practice some stuff and end up neglecting the finish a bit, I lose some of the best by rushing a bit to wrap it and move on to the next one.
The next piece that I do for myself will not have this practice zone imperfection but it will be in wip thread for a while.

@Ogrebane. Thanks a lot for that, I\'ll try my best to live up to your prediction^^

Granddad!
pretty much what\'s already been said really, if you don\'t want to blackline just add a touch of black or very dark brown to your base color, tends not to be as harsh as just black
done the votey thing
p.s. you want to be insulted take a look at my latest mini

Hey Greenie!
Yeah - looks far cleaner , and sharper than your previous works ;) Still you need to work some more on colours, and applying the paint - a tad to thick for me still.
The Unicorn is too yellowish for me :p
Beside the unicorn , the lass\' gown looks great!
