One angry Boss

Hello guys. Now I\'m sure you\'ve all heard at one point some new member like me whining that \"the votes are rigged!\" or \"Why won\'t anybody comment? \" Well I would like to just mention that
Gruumsh, my Orc General has a rating just higher than
This, which isn\'t even painted(Note this picture has now been removed) and This, which I painted roughly two years ago.

Please help me out Gruumsh has been getting really cranky since he found out his average score and the way he\'s been waving that giant axe of his since just makes me scared to be near him. :p

Fine, whatever. Just help me out please cuz I find it both strange and annoying the Orc General I spent weeks converting, painting, stripping, repainting and converted is barely better then an unpainted conversion.

Hmm. Unfortunately I can\'t say I see much of a dramatic improvement. The ears on the boars are well done. The rest of Gruu semms a bit overdone. By that I mean there are too many colors that don\'t blend well together. Try to limit your pallet more so the figure creates a more pleasing, softer look (I know, orks aren\'t soft, but that picture is a bit hard to look at). Plus if you improve your photography skills you will score better. The center of the Gruu shot is way too dark so all of the detail is lost.
From what I see, the human head is well done. It might help to include an insert of a face-on picture of that.

Kinda got to agree with Vince here - the colors are a little harsh and look a little flat on both the Ork and the Gobbo\'s. You might also want to consider washing the skull on the standard to make it look less stark - washing will bring out the lines and cracks in the skull and give it a more realistic look.

Okay, first let em say that I think your ork is a little unrated. However, I\'ll try to give you a few insights, for what its worth.

1) At first glance, Gruumsh appears to be messy. On closer inspection, most of the painting is quite neat and orderly except for the chariot itself. The cahriot itself is rather messily painted, but, to me at least, that\'s fairly appropriate and \"orky\". I\'d be willing to bet, though, that many voters didn\'t bother to look any closer. They take a quick look, see \"messy\" and vote low.

2) Your \"Dork Elves\", by comparison, look neatly painted at first glance, hence, a quick voter is likely to vote them higher. Over all the painting may not be as skillful, but the overall first impression is better.

3) Your unpainted conversion - I tend to vote on what\'s presented. If I\'m presented with an unpained conversion, I vote on the conversion. If I\'m presented a painted conversion, I vote on a painted conversion. Etc. So, it\'s quite feasible that I could vote a conversion (unpainted) just as high as a painted model. YOu may not agree with that, but [shrug]

HOpe this helps.

Thanks for the help guys

Thanks for the advice, but everyone please be free to add anymore when you feel like it.
One more thing, even though I sound like a total newb when I say this I gotta ask;

When updating a picture, how do you swap one photo for another when you upload your pictures fom your computer, not another site?
???

I DONT LIKE MY SCORES

Welcome to cmon:D
Honest dont pay too much attention to the scores, rely more on what people have to say.I gave you 5 for them and 6 for the elves cos they look neater.
I dont think you can update your pic from your pc.One way is to link your pic to an image on a hosting site.Update the image on the other site and it will migrate to cmon,I think. But this means you get comments and scores from old pics on new ones.If I repost I delete the old image and create a complete new entry.

I do understand as a newish member how comparatively low scores can grate, there has been an undercurrent of this recently.
I mean no offence and would if I had the time and energy comment on all the posts.
But what do you expect ? I personally have learned that I need to brush up on my paint work, choose colour more carefully and borrow beg or steal a better camera or even somebody who can take photo\'s. I\'ve found that the difference between a 5 and a 7 can be entirely due to one or more of these factors. My friends all gasp at my mini\'s because they can\'t paint (or have never tried). People here have an entirely different view point that\'s why we post for peer review. As for Bias on ranges colour schemes and views there are numerous threads on what people like and dislike.
I come here to endulge in little light relief and post because I want to share what I enjoy with like minded folk and if I get patted on the back or kick in the nuts I\'ll still come.
One day I\'ll do something that I am entirely pleased with and won\'t care if its a 4.5 or a 10.
I\'m a rambler,I\'m a rambler from Manchester way.

BTW I once had a chocolate lesbian but it melted.
oooooooo. maybe a festive tree decoration range would go down well (no smutty quotes thank you!-you know who you are)

Ok, thanks for all the feedback. I\'m trying to make a new picture of Gruumsh right now, If I can get it onto the site I\'ll probably remove the one I linked up to in this forum. But I will make a new link to the new picture.
Cheers evrybuddy:bouncy::moon::bouncy:

While we\'re at it, since I keep kvetching -

Tell me where I\'m going with this piece:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/?id=50398

I have to admit when I finished him I was envisioning mid-7\'s, and dreams of cracking the mythical (for me at least) 8 were bordering on the rear crease of my brain. Then it all went to the mid-6\'s and I felt like the Luggage had just trodden on my twig and berries.

So...tell me what you like and don\'t like about Mr. Nurgle? (And thanks already to Cerridwyn for the comment!)

Honestly, I don\'t not like alot of it:)
I think it\'s great, and it definitely deserves a better score, the only little tidgy things that look a bit wierd are the sword, and mebbe his right gauntlet. Other than that, besides making your blending even smoother (not saying it isn\'t) I don\'t think there\'s much you can do but sit back and get some mafia enforcers out there, patrolling the CMON populace.

DFoley, I don\'t know what happend with your mini, I guess you had some poll snipers or something, I think it\'s great. Maybe someone didn\'t like you swapping weapons. As a man called Space once said \"there\'s something about a big spikey mace that says Nurgle\" or something like that. Maybe someone thought his face had an expression of a rather slow dimwitted man, but considering this is a worshipper of Nurgle I think that\'s appropriate. Or maybe someone\'s herpes was acting up when they ran across your figure. Who knows?

darthfoley:

well I think the mini deserves a 7 at least... the face is very nicely done.... rather cute and ......aaaawwwwww.... in that \"I\'ll wipe ur nose kiddo\" sorta way..... . I kinda thought nurgle guys were supposed to look meaner...

I agree with Nelson, the sword looks a little off..... but its still a very nicely done mini.

hmmm and hmmm

Bryan..
I think to break out of the tabletop realm you should focus on getting some blends or layers in the painting. Pretty much anything that is relying on drybrushing or inking is probably going to score in the table top zone...

Darth...
I think your image is pretty big, and will tend to get voted down by people too critical of the painting at a large size. I am also not a big fan of the \"sock\" background. I think something like this would score a little better, and there are no tweaks to the paint job, justa change of the background, and a little smaller. (course now everyone will say I am high)
Plus I think the neutral background is making the head washed out looking.
