One extreeme to another

Last mini was a 54 mm Sophie, this is one of Reaper\'s familiars. Very small fig - about 10 mm. Also very fun to paint. The base is from a new company called \"Sarge\'s Footlocker.\" They are a small garage casting company just starting out and I was lucky enough to get some pre-releases.

As always, trolling for votes and comments to make the next one better. Thanks in advance.

it\'s a lovely mini!
because of its small dimensions, i may suggest to put stronger highlights on it to have a more decise contrast, xpecially on the cape

i hope to be useful!

I agree with LouisCyper, some stronger highlights would help very much.

But, I do like the dingy look of the mini, it adds to his character.

Your photography skills are the tops!!

And I was afraid I had overhighlighted him... The grundgyness of the base and him came from several layers of inks and highlights. Tried to get him in the gory mode without the RED blood everywhere.

Sorry if my comments sounded harsh. Personally I feel this mini is lacking in the following areas:

1. It looks heavily washed as a result it\'s patchy and slightly glossy. Maybe starting from a black/dark base coat & slowly work ur way up to the highlights. Keeping the wash just on the lower part of the cloak to give it a weathered/stained look?

2. The choice of colour obscures the details. I couldn\'t really tell what is what. Also the basework is too heavy for a small model like this.

3. The blade of the weapon looks unfinished.

Hope I dun sound like I\'m picking faults with it. :wow:

Don\'t worry about that. My skin is pretty thick when it comes to mini comments. I would love to break the 7 mark, but it will take someone letting me have it with \"tough love\".

After I had done him, then decided to go with the gorey skulls base, it was too much brown. One mini has too many colors, this one has too few. \"one extreeme to another.\"

Were I to redo him, I would include some reds in his layers of robe, cloak, cowl to separte them. I would also have done the base in more bleached skulls/bones instead of fresh ones.

I like all the color. I just think he isn\'t very \"clean\" some black lining may help.

Also the skull looks pretty blob like. Geting some diluted sepia color between its teeth and eye sockets may very well help.

It\'s pretty good for the size (I have one myself and it\'s smaller than my pinky nail!) but I can\'t really see where base begins and he ends and vice versa.. the blade side also looks a little blotchy, but other than that first rate!

What everyone else said.

That is one of the things I like about these forums; on most every submission post (at least that I have seen), you get a flurry of advice, and then the later posters (like a day later, if that!) end up saying \"I can\'t add anything else\". Folks are just tripping over each other to help!

Airhead: Nag nag nag. lol

Ok I got your email, so here\'s my comments: It\'s a small figure! ;)

One that I\'m unfamilar with. :D

But in answer to the email, I\'ve found the thread at a later point and everyone else has put in similar comments to my train of thought. However for it\'s size it\'s well painted.

Something to consider: If you were going to paint another one, would you change the colour threshold between the hood and the tunic to a greater colour separation? (ie. Beige hood and Chocolate brown robes)

This is just my opinion and in no way meant to detract from the work you\'ve done, but to me the base is too \"busy\" for the figure. (Oh that sounds terrible!)
in my opinion the base is holding the viewers eye away from the figure and not complementing it. My eye is constantly drawn to the skull at the front and away from the figure.
A small figure such as this one, really needs a plainer base to enhance the figure.

Having said that both base and figure are equally well painted, and I\'ve voted to reflect that, as I appreciate the difficulty in painting something of this size. :D

I will have to second Dragonreach on the base. I think it\'s totally keeping in character with the figure, but the little guy is almost the same size as the skulls!

The painting is good (ESPECIALLY considering the size) but it looks a bit undefined. When you paint on this scale, the details need to \'pop\' a bit more, because the details are that much more subtle.

Good model, though, a 7 in my book.

BTW, if you feel like it, I wouldn\'t mind you posting info on the manufacturers of that base.

Very nice, but I still don\'t call 10mm small. There are some nice 6 and even 5mm pieces out there. Go for it!
