One for the terrain guys - burnt

I need to make some fresh burnt areas on my next piece of terrain. (15\" square blue foam by 3/4\") I have taken some flat black spray paint and \'etched\' some nice black divits into it. Now, I whant that burnt grass look around the divits. Got some Fine Cinders and dark green static grass today to go with just about anything else.

Hints? Tips?

I think I\'d attach the static grass in the usual way, then spray black on it in fine dusts. When everything is dry I\'d drybrush the grass with some mid brown with a bit of grey mixed into it. Not too much, though.

I have never tried this myself, but should I try to get the effect of burnt grass this is the first method I would test.

Vallejo German Camo Black Brown (822)and VMC Smoke lightly drybrushed onto the static grass, finally easing down to something like GW\'s Snakebite Leather to emulate the scorched grass.

Just a quick thought.

Whatever you end up putting on it, drybrushing with grey and white would be perfect for this type of thing.
