One in a Hundred War Photo

evil tendencies

Cake or Death?
For all you photo geeks out there, I thought you might find this one interesting; you just have to be in the right spot and then get very lucky to capture an image this active.

Wow, I'm a bit red in the face...

It almost seems like cheating, but it's hard to argue with the results.

Yep, capturing that moment in time is certainly a lot easier than it ever was. I don't think stills will die, but I think we'll increasingly see them being pulled from video for journalism purposes.

My next purchase after Christmas will be a 7D - 8fps stills and 24p HD video and for not much more than what I paid for a 40D 2 years ago.

i noticed this back in '03 when we shot video of each day's surf sessions in Costa Rica...
it's a lot harder to miss the crucial shot of a move when you have so many frames a second recording...
it feels like an accomplishment when you get a great shot with a regular camera though...
in Costa, i only had a video camera, but came away with loads of great stills thanks to digital technology...

still, the first shot is an amazing moment in time...
that guy was probably wishin' he had some Kevlar on right about then...

cheers

That is a really good picture. Really dramatic!
This Afghan war is very well documented with youtube videos of all of the foreign forces and depending what website you look at, you can get some very good quality British helmet cam in a middle of a firefight. (I say a firefight not a Ross Kemp lie down by the HQ section :p)

This one was shot by a chap using a 5D2 and a 7D, edited and finished by 3am that evening
bloody hell!
New hybrid photographic/video technologies are revolutionising this sort of photojournalism. This is an interesting project:

that's an interesting read. i love seeing problems like this and how people overcome them. that's quite a bit of kit modification

That's cheating! Next you'll be telling us that it's okay to drybrush minis!

Madness! Madness and sorcery!

Regardless of the technique, it's still amazing.

That trailer for the Afghan thing is also very compelling.

It's lucky the bullet didn't hit that guy or the photographer would have an interesting shot to say the least!
