opening wierd files

being somewhat pc-challenged could anyone point me towards a program to open files with the .rar
extension/ending/lastname/whatever it\'s called

as mentioned like .zip files, .rar files are usually compressed. I think newer versions of winzip might open winrar too - but unsure.

But there\'s plenty of free/share-ware programs that will make/open/edit .rar files if you can\'t fing or get winrar

or you can try 7zip, which works on most format. Best of all is its own .7zp format, which have a better compression ratio.

lol winrar makes me laugh, they say you have to pay for it but can continue using it indefinitely. (as far as i can tell!) great!

IIRC, the guy who wrote WinRar died a few years ago and the software got taken up by someone else (with permission) and it is at this point that it had a fee. If your working with loads of small rar files it becomes anoying as hell haveing to cancel the reminder every time WinRar starts up so its either pay the license fee or crack it.
