Opinions on new golden daemon book?

It looks to me like the sort of freebie you get with another magazine...

...ah

There would still have been complaints if the booklet was a better quality but not free, so i guess its up to the readers to decide which is an easier pill to swallow.

Well, last year the print quality was high but they charged. However, the two years previous to that they gave away the demons booklet free and it was on high quality paper. Higher even than WD.

I must admit I was slightly disappointed with the booklet myself. I only bought WD for this.

A few years ago, I bought Fantasy Miniatures Art Book and was quite happy with it. (Before I discovered CMON by the way). I wish though that they would release pictures of some of the older stuff. They must have a huge back catologue that no one gets to see at all any more.

If anyone wants to see past winners this site was mentioned in a previous thread here.

The booklet was adequate if a little sparsely illustrated for such a huge event with so many great entries which did not win prizes. I am sure we would all like to see what \"lesser\" mortals are doing too.

The paper quality was well covered by the editor in the magazine and websites so I would not support any criticism for that. My only \"beef\" is that it took so long after the event to produce.

Speaking of mini-publications (not small books, but books about small people); will we ever see a CMON Annual 2004? 2005? My book shelf is hideously sparse.

Booklet

The answer Glassoper is velly simple, go to net, find G.W.s shares for last 12 months and there my flend is the solution to the ploblem.Remember, QUALITY COSTS MONEY !??? :( GOD bless ...............VINCENTI

i dont know why people had to complain last year with it being of pay... it was so much great, with lots of close ups, much thicker paper (and in general more quality) and texts from some of the entrants, also there were some pages from the judges\' opinions and finally some pages of other winning models in other golden demons around the world... no comparison, that was a really great booklet, but as everybody screamed to them why to pay they had to do it much worse this year, a pity... id prefer to pay for it and be like last year

Bouncing back on the idea of having a Golden Demon section in every issue of White Dwarf, in the french WD, after publishing the winning minis of GD FR, they\'ll publish in the next 3 WDs most of the minis that made first cut. They also from time to time publish minis from GD Germany, Spain, UK, and USA. This month, they even did a special on Victoria Lamb. Don\'t they do the same in the other WDs? I\'m asking, not to discard that idea (I think it\'d be cool), but to know what is already done in other countries.

Here in the U.S. they will publish all of the U.S. winners, and the UK and French winners. Though the UK and French winners seem to show up at best 8 months after the contests. They sometimes put some models that made the cut at the US shows, but not with the UK and French. I think they carry the Canadian GD\'s too. They published the Victoria Lamb article here a couple of months ago. I would say there is GD coverage here in roughly half the issues, though I admit, I don\'t buy White Dwarf regularly anymore.

I think there was a small section on Victoria Lamb in the UK WD recently. But I don\'t really remember any other GDs being featured, except maybe the occasional random page filler.

@Albert : What most people were complaining about last year was that the quality was the same, just we were made to pay for what was previously free!

However it\'s an old story...GW UK still see the Golden Deamons and the Painting/Collecting side of the hobby as a minor add on to the business of selling Toy Soldiers.
Over the last 4 years Gamesday UK has has an increase in VIP\'s mostly in suits and obviously investor types. I\'ve never seen any of them taken to, or shown around the Golden Deamon displays.

yeah, those VIPs were all over the posh bar we had our lunch in, and saw some regional managers suited up and licking some.......

This years effort was well below par, I now think fondly of the 2 years when the feebie had a card cover!!

Rob, yes the bar was ful of suits until us lot went in!! Need to discuss this years effort at some time!

Cheers,

Neil
