Orangutans

Hey guys...

I am looking to make a Jokaero for my 54mm Inquisitorial war band, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas about getting hold of a 50-70mm tall Orang\'utan model...

But there must be some metal models of The Librarian from the Terry Pratchett books??? In fact I am sure I have seen some. Can\'t recall their scale however...

hehe... I was about to suggest Spacemunkie too. I suspect that he\'s considerably taller than 50-70mm though.

No idea where to get an orangutan from though!

Why dont you get the second GW Scyla model and model Fur over it. It would be around the right scale and it has that long armed/short legged stance of an ape. If you wanted a Jakearo (sp?).

But other than \'Britains\' models I had as a kid, can\'t think of any manufacturer of Apes ??? Other than boy and girl apes that love each other very much lol :innocent:

If you\'re not put off by the whole \"pre-painted plastic\" moniker, you could always use one of the ape types from the D&D miniatures line, add some green stuff details/refinement, and repaint:

The great thing is that they\'re exceptionally easy to carve and convert. The bad thing is that they\'re rather soft PVC plastic so have a flex to them. I\'ve repainted a couple and have had no problems with paint chipping off however.

The first is a Taer from Aberrations and is rather cheap on eBay. The second is a Dire Ape from DragonEye and somewhat more expensive.

Last time I was in London I found those discworld figures at orc\'s nest. You could check if they still have them. And check the size (I don\'t have the librarian but the other figures that I do have are a bit taller than 28mm).

Peter I recon that the Britains Plastic Toys are your best bet for Size and comparison.

Just remember He\'s an orangutan, not a monkey!

Planet of the apes didn\'t have minis, did they?.. Keep in mind that males have that weird head thing and theyr\'e a lot stringier and gangly than Gorillas, but then maybe Jokero evolved a bit differently.. from man.

I was thinking that maybe i could sculpt over something like the GW LotR troll from the mordor catapult... it\'d be the right size, and it\'d be an interesting project, but its bloody expensive!

Hi,

I was in a toyshop a few days ago and saw the Orangutan you see on this page Schleich Tiere

It\'s about 60-80 mm if I remember right and sculpting is pretty well. Not sure about the material but probably vynil. Price is ok too but I\'m not sure if it\'s available in the UK. You can order it at that site though.

Er, that toystop was in another city, Utrecht. Perhaps the local store has some too but I\'ve got the feeling they are going for cheapo \"made in China\" animals. I\'ll have a look though it could take a few days (I may have to check in the nearest large city for that - is ok, I\'m trying to find stikfas figures anyway).

Hi Peter....

Just had a quick gander on Ebay and there are two auctions that have Britains oragutans (I think they are about 54mm scale). One of the lots also includes a plethora of other animals too
