Orc Nob - Advice Please

Hi everyone,

I thought I would give a WIP a go and hopefully get some feedback in the process.

1. I've done the Orc skin base/high/low and they gave it an ink wash to tie it all together, do you think it could do with more highlighting?

2. Also I've tried some battle damage on the Chainsaw and would appreciate any feedback.

Many thanks

Hi Blackline, did you put green ink over it? The blue cast to the photos makes it a little hard to tell :) I'd try working in a little more of the yellow or white highlight you had before the wash. If your ink matches my experiences with the stuff, it'll lift & you can blend the highlights in whilst avoiding the look of them just sitting on top. If it needs neatening up again afterward go for a lighter yellow/brown glaze rather than green/wash so that you don't lose it again :D Looking again to check :) I can see highlights on the face but I think they've been lost elsewhere.

Oh, is he an army figure you've hundreds of to paint or a possible GD entry?

My metals are poor so will leave the chainsaw to others :) Cheers, B.

Hello,

I did use a green wash (the new GW one). I no the photos arn't very good but thanks for your comments and advice. I think I will go back and use my last highlight and touch the extremes as you both mentioned.

I would like to do an ork army!, but this one is more of a practice peace.

I will post again in a few days with the changes.

Thanks

well i agree that you should try and use an extreem highlight on the skin to make it pop a bit more.
as for the damage, i think its done realy good, i would like to know what colours you use for it since i have a orc & goblin army myself and i also use yellow. would really appreciate if you could help me a bit with it :)

lookin forward on your progress

Disaster!!!

It all went wrong, a bad accident :-(

I started adding more highlights and it really started coming together but.... well the rest is history as it is now in the bin.

Thanks for all replys, I'm going to start another one (same as this one) and I think this time I will make sure the highlights are fully completed before getting the inks out!

I’ve just started painting again after 5 years, I use to paint a lot (mainly for gaming) but I decided to start painting again but this time with more focus on painting than board games. So I guess I’m still learning and trying to find the way that works for me! I’ve started getting use to using thinner paints, as I’ve browsed the forums a lot and it seems to be what most people recommend to achieve a smooth blend. I've managed to get the hang of blending when it comes to the shadows, but for some reason it all goes horribly wrong when it comes to highlighting (especially large areas)
I seem to get…. While… like white streaks appear. I’m guessing because the paint is too diluted!? So this happened on the orc knob and no matter how many coats it wouldn’t go away!! So I went over it again with the base coat, but by this time it went… textured almost!!
I thought doing a WIP would help, and it has I knew the highlights weren’t quite their but was very hesitant to make them lighter. That’s where it seems to go wrong at the moment. But I’m sure with some more practice and patients it will all come together.

it sure look like it was a good start that nob. sighty bigger pictures in the future would help to see your progress though, its somewhat hard to judge the true painting in these pics (ok i use one supersmall computer right now but anyway... )

sorry about the "disaster", i guess shit happens. practisepractisepractise! and never give up your greenskins! ;)
