Oriental Miniature line?

Is there by chance a way to search this forum? If so, I\'m a dolt and would have been willing to search, but I know I\'ve seen a line of oriental miniatures before and I can\'t remember the names. The Brettonians are comming out and I dig em, yes I do. Also, I just saw the Last Samurai movie and was moved upon with a great idea. Convert Brettonian stuff into mounted Samurai! The fuedal system keeps with the fluff and I\'m just in need of some really good inspiration. Especially with GW\'s sad sad lack of Oriental stuff even though Cathay and Nippon and frequently mentioned in their stories. I think I might be biting off a lot more than I can chew with this, but I want to see if I can do it. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

I belive Reaper is coming out with the Legend of the Five Rings again, and it\'s based on Japanese legends so there is lots of Samurais, Ninjas, etc. Reaper also had a few asian minis in their Dark haven line.
You can check out the gallery here:

Hope this helps!

Clan Wars

AEG made tons of Oriental/Samurai stuff under the game title Clan Wars, they may even still be in production. Do a search for Clan Wars miniatures on the web or ebay and I\'m sure you can find lots of stuff. These are the molds/sculpts that I think Reaper is basing the new LO5R miniatures on.

Hope that helps!

Well, it looks like Clan War might have been what I was thinking of. Boy, there sure doesn\'t seem to be a very cost effective way of doing this.:( I don\'t think I would be down with trying to sculpt all that stuff on them either. Well, if you have any other ideas of how to pull off a Samurai themed army based on the Brettonian rules, I\'d love to hear it.

Thanks for the links guys! The more I searched, the more I saw that there were tons of historical samurai. I\'m wondering who might be the best maker of \"Fantasy\" samurai? I\'ve considered trying to chop up the Easterling models from the LOTR line (Torso up probably) so they would still be made of citadel minis and be usable in a tournament. I\'ve also thought of trying to use some sort of small dragon in place of the pegasus riders. Any thoughts on that?

I like the dragon idea, try to keep it in theme with the rest ie. chinese or japanese dragons (slender snakelike, no wings) But difficult to find however, I\'ve been trying to find some, but no luck so far :)

Samurai miniatures.

There are lots of samurai miniatures out there. For fantasy samurai I\'d go to em-4-miniatures and AEG(clanwar). Go to www.clanwar.com and www.em4miniatures.com. For historical stuff you can\'t beat the range the Perry twins are coming out with. The same Perry twins that sculpt most of GW\'s empire stuff. They have cavalry, foot, missile troops, ashigaru, samurai. They are also coming out with ikko-ikki, samurai monks. Go to www.perry-miniatures.com. Their figures are also very affordable although you have to order them from the UK. But they still come out to be very affordable after the shipping There is also Dixon miniatures. In the US you can get them from www.speartorifle.com. These are fantastic but are a little smaller than standard GW miniatures. There is also Old Glory. They have huge packs of miniatures that are very affordable, though I\'ve never bought any. Go to www.oldgloryminiatures.com. As for Dragons, Clanwar has a few and I blelieve Ralpartha used to have some. Check into Reaper miniatures for dragons as well. Reaper miniatures also have a few samurai but they discontinued some of their best. Fenryll miniatures also have a few packs of samurai: armored, non-armored and 1 mounted. Check them out at www.fenryll.fr/ My pick is the Perry\'s miniatures and I am building an army from their offerings. Good luck.

Samurai

Hi, Check out www.kendoka.com. This guy has tons of japanese figures and has a comprehensive site. I also found a cool chinese figure at www.fantanization.com. I forgot who the manufacturer is though. There are chinese armies available too. From Dixon miniatures and Newline Designs. Search for them on the web.

Thanks guys! That should get me started. Now we\'ll just have to see exactly what the Brettonians are like and what I would need to fill out a decent army.

LotR miniatures aren\'t any more tournament legal (official GW run tournaments, anyway) than non-GW products, from what I\'ve been told. It\'s part of the agreement with New Line, I believe, that they have to keep LotR separate from their other games. Also, the LotR stuff is a slightly smaller scale if I remember correctly.

If you\'re looking for eastern dragons, there are a few that pop up from time to time. GW made one, I watched it go out of my price range on ebay last month. Thunderbolt Mountain also made one (a gold dragon as I recall) that I thought looked very eastern. Good luck with the Cathay army and keep us posted!

It would be just like GW to not allow LOTR stuff into their tournaments. The models are still made by Citadel though right? My understanding was that anything Citadel or Forge World was cool. But then again, not allowing it sounds just like GW. Yeah, the scale is slightly smaller, but so are Asians. I had considered doing all their mounts as cold ones (using the Spite head. Very oriental looking and very cool) and maybe some winged cold ones to keep an oriental fantasy theme in there. The more I look into it, the more it sounds like it\'s going to cost a lot of ducats. Well, that\'s what you get for trying to do something original. Thanks for the dragon tips. I\'ll watch for those.

While it may be \"just like GW\" to exclude these minis and while I know there is no more popular sport (at least in the mini world) than bashing GW :D the reason for the exclusion is NOT GW\'s. It\'s New Line\'s. It\'s part of the licensing agreement GW signed in order o be able to create the minis. I believe that\'s also part of the reason for the slight difference in scale. New Line wanted to keep \"their\" characters as seperate and unique entities, not something that would get mingled in with GW\'s regular line. Hence, they are considered an entirely seperate category, not just part of WHFB. This BTW makes perfectly good sense for New Line to require in order to maintain the integrity of their intellectual property, the three films, and to gain maximum benefit (ie - money) from it.

[end of atypically serious response]
