Oriental skin tone

Hi guys, I\'m about to paint my Harbinger of Justice mini, and I\'ve decided to make him oriental. The problem is I\'m not sure what colours to use to create this skin tone. I don\'t want him to be very dark (sort of Japanese skin tone).

If anyone has any recipes/ideas please let me know (I\'m using Vallejo game colours)

There is no such thing as an \" oriental \" skin tone, I think you may be looking for advice on an ASIAN skin tone or Mongoloid skin tone.

Objects and gift shop trinkets are oriental. PEOPLE are not.

I think someone hit a cord.....Hmmmm, I\'m not sure how to do an asian skin tone. Maybe add a little grey or olive in with your normal skin tones? That might work, but I\'ve never actually done it before. Oh well. :bouncy::moon:

Actually, I\'ve made a poll of what articles people wanna see after finals (two weeks and I\'m out!) at:

One of tehm is an ethnic skin tone, but it looks like the dirty cloth is going to be first, followed by me screaming \"La la la\"....

Meanwhile, in the land of the Valejo color chart....

Vallejo\'s skin tones are a bit yellower than usual, so that might be good. Problem is figuring out just which asian nation you wnat, as many of the southeast cultures are so seperated, and they have different colors. Color does vary slightly, but it will even wihin the same family, but I\'ll be sure to address this in the article. for now, the colors that look good are:

Dark Sand
Iraqi Sand
Tan Yellow
Yellow Ochre
and even a teeny bit of Gold Brown

Make sure the colors are not too bright, I don\'t care where you come from, everyone has natural looking skin! (except for, maybe, the Blue Man Group....)

Thank you for the help there with the colour suggestions, I\'ll give it a try (now how to make them with the game colours ).

My apologies also if I inadvertently offended anyone, that was seriously not my intention, but obviously showing up my poor vocabulary.

If you offended anyone then they must have tried really hard to be \'offended\'. This is a multi-national site and occasionally descriptions might differ between languages. Try doing a search for \'oriental skintone\' on google and you will find lots of professional sites that share your \'lack of vocabulary\'.

Oh man I did not mean to come across the way I did. I was not offended by the discription, I just feel the compulsion to correct that little ( all be it VERY common ) mistake.

Please I apologize if I made it seem something to be ashamed of.... Oh man am I embarassed.:~(

I am not as proficient in painting as others here are but I would say thta olive might not be such a good idea if you are trying to achieve a pale Asian skin tone. You might try mixing a bit of gold with white to a tan flesh color.

Actually, speaking as someone who was actually born in the Orient, \"Oriental skintone\" is probably a much better description than \"Asian skintone\", which, depending on which part of the world you live in, could easily mean Indian skintones as well.

Language barriers are an interesting thing. Fizl is english (as am I) where we do indeed use the term Oriental to describe those born in the Orient, where as Asian is the term we use to describe continental Indians, Pakistanis and others from that region. Asian is a term used only in America to describe those we would call Oriental. I live in the U.S. and this took me a long time to get my head around! ???

And then some people refer Native Amwericans as Indians, so that screws up people even more!!

For Asian/Oriental skintones I use:
Start with a Pale Skintone color
add small amt of greyed/tan yellow
add small amt of golden yellow
add teeny-weenie drop of olive/camo green...voila, Asian skin!

I\'m experimenting with painting oriental or asian fleshtones (depending on who I want to offend today..). I\'m using vallejo yellow ochre, followed by a wash of gw flesh. It\'s a little orangery than I intended, but when I tried using brown glaze, I couldn\'t get the coverage satisfactory and I don\'t have a brown ink. I haven\'t finished yet, but I intend to highlight up from yellow ochre using pale sand. I will post pictures if they turn out..
