Heres the ork I did for the paint off. I had a great time painting him, but again, I cant do pictures well so.... But anyways here it is. I didn\'t get much feedback on it in the paint off thread or in comments. Ive taken a new picture, a bit clearer I think. What do you guys think?

I wish I could capture more detail with my camera, but the truth is that it\'s just old. I guess I need a new one. Here are the original pics I posted for the challenge that show a bit more detail:

So some feedback would be nice, thanks!

One thing that strikes me is that he looks really good off the big show base but less so on it.

I think the base is a bit to green and it kinda hides him. I think browning it down a bit will make him really pop.

great mini though with bags of character. I like the clean painting and strong contrast.

Yeah I was thinking about that with the base too. The browning ideas a good one. Cant believe I didnt think of it.

I totally agree, far to much green. and your guy gets lost in there. The base looks too nice, like hes gone for a hike with his dog instead of spreading death and all that.

Def tone it down, but I wouldnt go to crazy with the earth tones. Id say dont go to extreme to dark brown but find that medial zone. And maybe add some scrap or maybe a dead Marine to add some color?

Aside from that the mini itself looks great I really like the blues against his skin.

Going on a walk with his dog, thats a good one. Yeah definitely gonna tone it down. What should I use? drybrush? washes?

Im not sure, I think id go with washes since im not sure how effective drybrushing would be on that static grass (since there is so darn much of it).

Or you could just make a new base, cause I really like this one but saddly it just doesnt work for the old greenskin. But its a really cool lookn base especially since it has a tree but its off center and not perfectly placed behind the mini.

I say keep it and make a new one.

So I\'ve been working pretty hard on this. Retouching the figure, making a dead guardsman for the base, I\'m also making a new base based on Automaton\'s new article. I should have pics pretty soon I think.

:( sadly the base I made is too big! It\'s still good for something though, I as thinking maybe a duel scene, heres a pic:

that would be cool, theres not much to the base though (I dont have your artistic vision) I can imagine it being almost anything right now. But I think if you have a tyrannid dueling someone make it anything but a space marine. How bout another nid. That would be new Not to mention AWESOME

Hi Necroghast, your Orc looks a lot better on the new base, his silhouette is clear & the greeness of the whole piece is better muted. Good job sir.

Your latest pic is just too white for me, even with the brightness on my monitor reduced its painful to look at lol Bit of a guess here but I wonder how he\'d look against a neutral pinky-grey background? Have you cropped the 4 images around the figure edge like you did in your original montage? I confess to having developed a dislike for this technique from its abuse in White Dwarf, I think the real shadows & tones you get from a real background set a figure off better than removing them & installing a flat background colour. Also, size-wise, I\'d suggest you go for the 4 images in a vertical stack so as to increase the width, I can\'t see all of your fantastic painting!

Congratulations on placing at Baltimore! B.

In terms of the background, I didn\'t do anything with it, thats just how the picture came out. (I don\'t have photoshop on my new computer yet) Stacking them- welll, I uh.. dont know how
