Some crits on my Ork warboss would be great, I received some good advice in the wip section and this made finalist in the 40k large monster which shocked me a bit. Anyway i woulds like to get my skills up to demon standard. For next year. I have some good ideas for entries, but not enough skill at the moment, so I hope to be able to put some real effort into upping my painting game with the help of the community. Thanks

I'll offer my critique and this is in no way bashing your work. The things I see in your figure are the same things I struggle with! I think the base is outsatnding!! I wish my basework came even close to yours! My main critique would be in two areas. First, the fleshwork. The transitions from light to dark are to stark. There needs to be a more seamless transition between your shades. I would also sy you needed to push your highlights more across the entire figure. My second is the rusted claw. Adding some washes of turquois around the rivets and bolts would help along with some much darker red rust in areas. Again, just my opinion and that being said, I would LOVE to have your work in my collection!! My suggestion would be to not set your sights on winning a demon as I think your work is worthy of commendation at any number of great shows such as Euro, le petite, expo and the like. I would love to see what you would do with a non GW kit such as something from Nocturna or Pegaso. Hope I didnt offend!

Thanks 10 Ball!

jcichon - Thank you for your kind words and the advice. I was actually going to add the turquoise staining. I did check out a lot of pictures of rust and it looked nice on the photos I saw it on. But I didnt put them on in case the realism was too much, I was attempting to strike a fine balance between cartoony and realistic. The ork sculpts suit the cartoon style quite nicely. I would agree with the skin comment. The original skin was darker but a whole lot smoother. I think I kind of messed up when I brightened the skin up to be honest. I will be working on smoother blending and making myself a wet pallette to allow me to work the skin without hurrying. My sights are on GD's first, I know some of the other shows have amazing kits and amazing standards to so one day I would like to be good enough to extend into the more serious historical stuff etc. For the minute I will be going with GW/ Forgeworld (especially Forgeworld) stuff and Rackham when I can do decent NMM!

Thanks!

Well done. My favorite mini pieces are the ones like yours with the miniature base beneath them to compliment/complete the whole theme.
