Howdy
i have just started an ork army and i was wondering if any of you Wonderful painters could give me some tips to any thing orky. on friday i bought an ork boss and a killa kan and advanced ordered the NEW boys, then on monday i bought a BIG mek. what should i buy next i have never looked at an ork codex letalone read one. but its not just about that heres some of them:

Damn, I had typed out a loooong reply and then my net crashed as I added it...

Wrongs:

Metals; need to be dirtyer. I suggest washing them with a black and chestnut ink mix (diluted)

Skin (on the Mek, it\'s fine in the boss); Needs more contrast.

Black; More contrast, higher highlights etc.

Pink lip(on Mek); Too pinktry painting it green like the skin first and then wash/glaze it with pink.

Right:

Yellow; Hard to see, but it looks as if you have a nice baselayer, may need shading/highlights.

Red; Nice stuff(especially on the Kan) Mgith benefit from some stark highlights along the edges

Trousers (on Mek); Look good, need shading

My favorite part of this is the Kan, but remember to Dullcoat them when you\'re finished, some bit\'s look a bit shiney ATM.

thanks squig the pics aren\'t very good so their all blured. i have tried to not do so much black and try to keep away from it. i drybrushed to kan Boltgun metal to it looked rusty. i think that it looks quite worn. all the rivits and the engine especially have at been rustified. with flesh wash. i also made my rust mix with flesh wash and a bit of gun metal. and then for hilight i add orange. also i like scraching stuff and i think the damage came out well. also the skin on the mek the older the ork the darker his skin so that is why the isn\'t much contarst.

Judt because something is dark coloured doesen\'t mean it doesen\'t catch the light as much

What I meant was: Just because the thing you are painting is dark coloured, doesent mean it can\'t have bright highlights.

The dress is black, but the highlights go almost up to white

Still love the Kan, and I still think the Mek\'s skin needs more highlights.

but i like him to be old because that is why i chose him leaning on him spanner thing because he is old. the bad ass is lighter because hes \'da new boss\'. hes the fitters and the strongest in \'da clan\' hes in his prime were as the mek\'s time is up.

One thing that may help if you want a darker ork is to highlight him as normal then give it several watered down glazes of your darkest colour, this will soften the highlights while still providing the depth of color that looks to be lacking. The other method I have found is that if you start with a darker color the end result with same number of highlights as a model with a lighter basecoat is a darker model overall. Sounds obvious i know but from comparing the 2 bosses it looks like you have the same shading at the deepest point, because of this the mek looks underdone as there dosent appear to be as much contrast. So to stop rambling make the base colour on the mek ALOT darker then on the boss, then add the same number of highlights as you did for the boss, except that because you started darker the highlights will be a darker tone then on the warboss. Sorry to rant........:redface:

got the first lot of NEW ork boyz in the post today and have put togethere 7 of them 3 more to go. they are going to be sluggers.

this is the mek, spanna. i did the skin catchan, catchan/DA green(1:1), DA green, DA green/goblin green(1:1).

this looks alot better. weather you have redone the skin or just done a new photo it looks like a big improvement, doesn\'t look so flat anymore.

Well Nick ya went an inspired me, picked up a box of boyz yesterday lol I really like the mech ya got but I need to keep my spendin in check maybe down the road.

any progress bud?
