Please \'scuse the blurred 1st image, or just squint a bit!

Theres about 6 hours work on and off put into him so far.

He really is a great mini and I have already got an idea for converting one for Goldem Demons!

Any thoughts/ comments and constructive critique are as always much appreciated. Should have him finished later on tonight if all goes to plan.

Very nice start to the model. Just wondering if you are going to weather the bottom of the robe as I think that would look good.

MOLDLINE!!!!! otherwise nice, but in GD to have a winning chance wich IMHO you do moldlines are a no-no.

Squig, mouldline shark

*edit* there are some on his left shoulder pad too.

Thanks Squig, Since looking at the picture I have noticed another line on the top of the hammer in the right hand too.:(

Do you have any tips for removing them? especially in those hard to reach nooks and crannies like the space between the wrist and hammerhead?

Looking awesome! A fantastic face, and the reds, especially on the front of his robe, are beautiful. Looking forward to seeing more on this one Dave

The face is excellent, looks like somebody you would meet at the Bigg Market! (Dragonsreach and Damekkos will understand)

I think the metallics need a bit smoothing out, maybe a few dark glazes for shading and then rehighlighting with thin glazes.

amazing face! i like it a lot! as far as the mould line is cincerned, i dont know if id file it off though. in my experience filing an alreay painted (or primed) mini. it gets filings everywhere that can cause paint lumps, and it frays the edges of the filing area. id use the tip of a sharp xacto knife.

Thanks for the mouldline tips guys, these ones will unfortunatley have to stay, but provided I learn for next time...

Thanks funnymouth, I am really pleased with the face too :D

In respect to the metallics not looking smooth, I really do not know what to do. I just can\'t thin metallics properley and the colours seperate when I add water. In my defence they look absolutley fine IRL. I don\'t know how many times bigger the photo\'s are to the model, but the photographs head is larger than the mini (including the rock and base!)

Any tips on thinning metalics?

Well I managed to start the Avatars of War Dwarf today. Not much of a start, but hey, its a start!

Made this base for him to stand on, Its strange but I have found I do a better job if I do the bases first! I originally made him in a flagstone base to represent a dungeon floor, but then I remembered Felix had sculpted the orc shaman. I decided I wanted my AOW collection to compliment each other, so went for a more generic base style that would suit any fantasy piece.

(I did warn you it wasn\'t much of a start!)

Heres the dwarf, just basecoated him with a mix of scorched brown, dwarf flesh, codex grey and graveyard earth (although I can\'t remeber the ratios. )I have premixed a pot of dwarf, codex and graveyard which I use as my basecoat for skin, but added scorched brown as I wanted him to have darker skintones.

I really love this mini, and the sculpt is fantastic. There is so much detail on it that I feel a little intimidated by it! Felix certainly did a super job. I was also impressed with the quality of the cast.

My parents need their camera back on sunday, so I shall try and get as much as I can done before then, although there is no way I am rushing him!

P.S- when did I become a senior member? that sounds very formal!

Thas a superb base! Where do you get the little leaves from?

It was really interesting watching your priest come together, so this will definately be something I will keep an eye on.

I started the flesh on him today, but my mixes were drying before I had done all of the mini, so I decided to concentrate on the head and face...

And now for your close-ups!

A word of warning if you are gonna paint this one day- I found the left eye difficult to paint, the axe kept getting in the way of the brush so had to hold the model upside down and twisty wristed to get in there to do it, and the pupil was a right slag to do like this!

This is the first time I have used purple to glaze flesh and I am really happy with it, I added a few more glaze layers for cheek shadow and lips for different skintone effects.

I am also pleased with the tattoo. I mixed catachan green and black ink to try and get that tatoo-ey colour right, but think it turned out too dark.

The leaves on the base are brass etched jobbies, I think the CMON store has some.

Any thoughts at this stage?

That base is gorgeous! I can\'t wait to see the figure when it is done. That AoW dwarf is pretty freaking sweet. Keep up the good work!
