Women and men are two sides of the same coin. Misogynists (is that the right spelling?) are cutting off their own limbs, effectively, by refusing to acknowledge the feminine.
Amen to that brother....(and don\'t think I\'m not aware of the irony of utilising that word :) )

Don\'t really care, I\'ve had several women bosses, some good, (one Really Good) some not so good and one selfish git!
Having a woman in a position of authority over me, doesn\'t disable or disenfranchise me as an individual and equally doesn\'t make me resent them. We all have differing skills, getting the regard and respect for those skills should be the basis for equality, not on whether your genitals are concave or convex.

I try to treat women with the respect they should deserve as an individual, doesn\'t mean I get it right all the time. (Hey, despite the rumours I am only human).

The day political correctness disappears is the day when equality is realized. Political correctness isn\'t a tool to bring us together but is instead a method of categorizing and separating us.
Things like \"Black History Month\" and heritage festivals really bother me. You shouldn\'t need a specific date and time to remember where you came from; it should be part of you.

My wife is a stay at home mom. It is my job to teach our children and pay the bills. It is my wife\'s job to teach our children and maintain the house. Our household will not survive long if one of us fails to do their job. (Which is funny because I am on strike and have no income to pay the bills and my wife is pregnant with our third and spends most of her time lying down or throwing up)

On an individual level, no woman or man is equal to me, or anybody else. We\'re all different. We have different starts and different ends and different means of getting there.
As a collective we are all human.
In my book, all people deserve courtesy and earn respect.

\"Women..you know the ones with boobs\"

Wondering. . .
Am I a woman simply because I have boobs? They\'re not impressive or anything, probably not quite a b cup. It\'s not like I\'ve copped a feel on myself recently. :p

It\'s old news, but Man has been keeping Woman under the cosh for millennia through religion and whatnot. I can\'t even begin to listen to a bloke proselytise if his religious organisation can\'t view women as equal. Tossers.

I generally find people who complain that \"women want equality until a door needs held\" are, generally, hanging out with the wrong kind of women. It\'s what they want in a woman. People who want independent women generally tend to gravitate to them as well. I know the minute someone expects me to treat them differently based on their gender, I take a dislike to them. But at the same time, when a woman tries to manipulate me by flirting I clam right up. And I will gladly lift a heavy object for a female friend just as readily as I will for a male friend who isn\'t as strong as I am, just as I ask people to put things on high shelves for me (I\'m only 5\' 3\"). But anyway:

There are more women in college now than men. I fully expect by the time my daughters are college graduates, you will see equal pay for equal work because there will be many more women capable and willing to do the top jobs, and let\'s admit it, I know a lot of people who only care about one thing: is this person making me money?

Now let\'s get back to talking about boobs. BOOOOOOOOOBBBBBBIIIIEEEEESSSSS....

I\'m a feminist! :D

Not only to get girls... ;)

You shouldn\'t hit each other whether being girls or boys so that\'s a lame argumentation. I\'ve done some wrestling with my lady friends... it usually turns out just fine in the end. :) And I hold the door open for both men and women I doubt anyone would see me as a pig if I didn\'t however.

Non-Equal pay also means that certain jobs that are deemed \"female\" get worse pay then those that are \"male\". Historically it\'s just hilarious to read how jobs have changed gender over the years. I don\'t think there is one country that has equal pay for equal work yet.

Equality doesn\'t mean that everybody needs to be the same. That is just mumbojumbo. It\'s just mean to reckon that the \"objective\" rulers we use to measure people are cultural and gender specific.

Men and women are both feminine and masculine - some men are more feminine than women and vice versa. Trying to remove the restricting way society press either of us into a form is what feminism and different liberation theories are all about. Of course socialisation is inevitable but with more different categories of acceptable behaviour a more open society will be created that more people can live and prosper in. I\'m not talking total value relativism just that some men are feminine some girls are masculine some men like each other... and that\'s nothing that will change. You know the old \"we\'re here we\'re queer, get used to it\"

The artificial homophobic masculinity that men adopt is something I find very funny. I am of course a victim for it myself when I try to present myself as a cool and masculine guy. But I tend to hug my male friends that I meet, even if I know they aren\'t comfortable with it.. and they tense up and make that hilarious male hug that means repeatedly hitting each other on the back. Hey if I like some body contact with another bloke I must be gay?? haha Nah. I think it\'s being sure of who you are and your sexuality. If you are there aren\'t many things that will threaten it.

Did you know that it was much easier for homosexuals to get sex back in the days? Because there weren\'t a name for it not many thought they were doing something wrong when they got a handjob by a fellow woodsman despite having wife and children. :) My view of sexuality is that it is a scale rather then set of on and off switches. Just as with femininity or masculinity... and then again we have the socially constructed part of it. Even if a share of men is biologically less emphatically gifted then women (in handing kids and so) it is something you can learn to become as well.

@johnyboyjjb: It is when we don\'t highlight problems that they will remain. Of course all that kind of celebrating who you are will lessen when who you are is acceptable... and one day we won\'t need it. But that\'s decades away!

If we just allow each other to be a little bit more what we are this world would be a better place.

Peace love and a happy nation and all that!

God bless! :innocent:;):D

Remind me not to flirt with you then. Of course, I\'m the first to TRY and pick up the heavy item without asking for help. 9 times out of 10 I can do it. But I\'m not afraid to ask for help on that 10th time. Thing is, flirting is second nature to me so.... ;)

I hate manipulation in any form. Doesn\'t matter who\'s doing it. That\'s one of the reasons I don\'t like a lot of women. Can\'t stand the games.

It seems to me that one of the problems with the \'counter arguments\' to gender equality - statements like BarstoolProphet\'s friend\'s that \'if a woman wants to be equal I should be able to punch her as I would a man\' or in the less extreme, the arguments about holding open doors, sinking boats, playing sport and so on - is that these arguments seem to be saying:

equality = same treatment

However, I think it might be more meaningful to say that:

equality = equal treatment, or equal value

I agree, Seb, and for the record, the burning building/sinking boat thing was just a joke I happened to hear a comedian tell on the way to work that morning. It just amused me.

The thing is, I don\'t see how the American society places lesser value on women at all. I think that women ARE seen equally from a value/worth standpoint.

The thing that is always being argued when the idea of \'womens\' equality\' comes up IS always their treatment relative to men.

Now I\'m not saying there are no exceptions to the rule...certainly there are those out there that don\'t value women as highly as they would a man, but they are just that: exceptions. And I\'d venture to say that most men in the U.S. would look down on such an attitude.

There is pretty much equality in most cases these days in the UK until (as I think Generul said) you get right up near the top. Unfortunately you\'re then in the murky realms of Masons and handshakes and all that palaver.

Re Avelorn\'s comments, I\'m a serial hugger. I don\'t get handjobs in the woods though

It is true what you say. To an extent. I believe the labels that are given in manners of pride end up causing rifts in relations.

Example: in our area, the Hispanic community is broken down into country of origin groups. The Mexicans stay away from the Guatemalans and the Puerto Ricans because each group is proud of where they come from and have created prejudices.

Most Jews are proud of their heritage but logistically it hasn\'t paid off too well over time.

I do agree that resolving a problem begins with identifying it. But I also think that identifying classes generates new problems.

I think that\'s a good summation.

Years ago I read an interesting review of a lecture I think it was; the lecturer (a man) was getting a lot of flack for his views. Seemed to make a lot of sense to me and most ladies I\'ve told it too have agreed... long as they let me get to the punchline!

Basically we\'re a product in so many ways of the time our ancestors spent as hunter-gatherers - a period which lasted for so much longer than recorded history it\'s not even funny.

Male development was driven by the need to be on the move, hunt and butcher game, plus communicate quietly and efficiently (sorry girls, the monosyllabic thing is genetic!).

The women were back at camp, raising the kids - including teaching them to talk* - and doing certain kinds of physical tasks like hulling seeds and nuts, removing pits from fruit, preparing hides etc. which directly results in the small-scale dexterity that seems to be more common among women - what made them good seamstresses & embroiderers historically also makes them better for certain kinds of machine operations and should make women superior candidates for microsurgeons. Their higher standards re. mistakes is also supposed to be in their favour in this regard.

*This is what makes women better at language, and languages, than men generally.

I can see just by the age groups that gender equality means different things to some then others and many because of age have missed real first hand experience in gender discrimination.

I caught the tail end of era of women as second class citizens before my “sisters” kicked over the traces and started demanding equal rights.

Decent girls were expected to marry, have kids and the husband call the shots. Divorce was unheard of, even if he beat the living daylights out of you and the kids.

There were only a handful of jobs deemed ok for women and you were still looked down on if you did work.

I can remember as a little kid male adults belaying the so called moral down fall of America on giving women the vote and these were highly respected pillars of the community.

I never ever want to hear those words \"you can\'t because your a girl\" (and no writing in the snow doesn\'t count)

while I may joke and tease about stereotyping men, I respect them and am glad to stand beside them in life.....note, not behind or ahead, but beside

;) now get your cute butts over to the Freak Bar for drinks

A feminocracy would be the most terrible form of tyranny. Just look at how women treat each other. Surprisingly, every girl I meet tells me \"we girls hate each other\", like they enjoy being misogynist and it\'s natural to them.

I\'m so gonna write a novel about it, really.

If I was Lord Almighty, I would turn everyone into a hermaphrodite. Snails seem to be happy with it.

I think women should always be treated with equality but not the same because - to make an obvious point - men and women are different.

Pound for pound a male bricklayer is going to be more productive than a woman but in jobs where interpersonal and verbal skills are important, women usually outperform men so they should be paid more than men.

Yes, quite! *puts a pipe to his lips and puffs away nonchalantly, other hand pressed into his smoking jacket pocket*

I think it was on Father Ted that one of the priests (in the episode when Father Jack smashed up the car) said something along the lines of \"I knew a woman once, but she died soon after.\" Tragic :D)
