actually in lower paid jobs women still get less a lot of the time for the same amount of work which in my opinion sucks as a lot of these women still have to go home and do the endless amount of chores unless they are lucky enough to have a partner whos willing to do them for her as well as having the time.

as for equality...men are better at some things and women are better at others. theres the occasional few exceptions in both cases.

i would like to say that we are equal in our differences, but pay should be the same regardless of sex for the same amount of work.....and in any case a lot of women have to go home and still do all the chores. ever heard the expression a womans work is never done?

i think you will find in lower paid jobs women get the same.
why, because of unions, female politicians and minimum pay laws.

and if a woman wants to work, come home and do house work and not get her partner to help out, then that\'s her tough shit. that has nothing to do with equality in the work place, that has something to do with her being with someone that doesn\'t treat her as an equal.

as an addition to my previous posts, not all women are physically weaker then men, i am not the most feminine of women, im 5ft 8 and pretty heavily built. i find it interesting that this actually disturbs a lot of men so instead of treating me like a woman they talk to me like a man instead...(whilst trying to ignore the double d\'s) i treat everyone pretty much the same regardless. Everyone is an individual, it doesnt matter what gender they are. the only time i get a bit weirded out is when guys flirt with me but im so unused to it i dont usually know what to do lol.
My boyfreind loves me for the fact hes not having to be worried for me walking down the street on my own as he knows i can defend myself...and he is stronger then me though seems to be insanely strong for such a slenderly built guy. he is so slender that he makes me look huge lol
Women who complain about equality and then expect men to hold doors open for them piss me off a bit ill be honest and so do \'girly girls\' who although they are quite capable of doing stuff for themselves quite clearly wont.

i come from working class stock which might be why i have this sort of attitude. when my mother was a farmers wife in her previous marriage the men would go out to the pub and leave her on her own in the middle of lambing season after doing a full days chores to have to deal with helping suffolk sheep to lamb....a big suffolk ewe not being the most co-operative of creatures and probably weighing more then my mother. She still managed it.

I actually feel uncomfortable if men try to carry heavy stuff for me....im perfectly capable of carrying a 7 stone suitcase up 4 flights of stairs, where the guy who offered was struggling.

everyone is different i guess. no one person is ever the same as the other and yet ill treat them all the same providing they show me some respect.

I feel this way, too. I have no patience with girls who flap and fuss and look around for the nearest chunk of testosterone to do something for them. I\'d like to see how well they survive the on-coming post-nuclear apocalypse! lol You know what we are, don\'t you? We\'re Capable Girls! Props to your mum! Farming is very hard work.

On a tangentially related note, James sent me this link to a
girly gaming ezine, which I\'ve read a bit of with polite interest, but I can\'t really say it speaks for me- I do not feel defined by either my gender or my choice of hobbies (I think I struggle to be defined at all, actually). I really pulled an odd face when I read the article on this girl\'s experience of a 4th ed. D&D preview. At one point the tone of her writing pretty much says \"Ewwww! There are boys there! They\'re icky and they smell, and I might have to play with them!\" Yes dear, the world contains men. Get over it. They\'re not all the monsters they\'re painted to be. (Except possibly Uberdark! lol) Of course, I might have a completely different attitude had my early gaming experiences (in an all-male group) been different, but there we are.

YES everyone, lemme say again EVERYONE should be paid differently, why? because everyone does different things, even if they are \"just as productive\" they will do other things, be managed by different people, be involved in different companies, or had a better or worse interview...sold themselves better or worse and so forth

there is no magical \"you two are equal\" button and therefore get the same pay...if you want to tell me you can scout two people and tell me they will be exactly the same production wise, well then im gonna tell you to eff off cuz its bullshit

you cannot compare one persons situation to another, whether it has anything to do with physical or mental makeup

stats as you know are incredibly easy to manipulate, do you know if it was a male or female that compiled or recorded the stats? how many companies, which ones, which areas of business, etc etc?

you cant just collect info from everywhere stick it together and have it say the same thing


the problem is, people are trained,....trained to love, hate, be racist, buy stuff, act a certain way, and all that yummy stuff by schools...you will NEVER obtain true equality as long as school teach you that you are different


***edit...oh and also since when did money=respect? and believe me, the money issue is #1 on 99% of womens charts before the other thing....if they are stay at home moms then its about the respect for \"all the work they do at home\" as if the man whos working for the money to allow her to do that, isnt doign anything

schools teach you you are different, and personality demands you be different....selfishness, greed, confidence, or lack there of, changes the viewpoint, and in turn changes the outcome of these situations

that being said, i respect, treat women fairly, NOT equally, but fairly, and do as i myself see fit, not something someone else has dictated to me, but then again i have a strong ability to reason, where many dont...so how can i expect my ways and beliefs to work the same for everyone else?

My take on equality is pretty simple. The requirements are .. equal?

If a job requires that the candidate be able to lift 75 pounds then there shouldn\'t be a different scale for gender (as in, men lift 75 pounds and women lift 45 pounds).

If a job pays $50,000 per year then it should pay $50k per year regardless of who is doing it.

Personally I\'m more upset about the kids vs non-kids equality issues in the workplace. \"I can\'t work late tonight because little Johnny has a T-ball game. Mary can do it because she doesn\'t have kids.\"

Equality works when you stop trying to get the same shot as everyone else, which is to say that you should be getting little to none.

I was shocked to discover out of middle school that, as a middle class white guy, I had less chance of getting a decent college scholarship with volunteer work and good grades than someone who was born a minorty or a woman had of getting a full scholarship, getting into a selective college, or getting my position in college and the job market secured based solely on how they were born.

So, in that case, I take the libertarian route and say that equality exists when you stop trying to have someone build a pillar for you to stand on. You get a better position by taking your hands and feet, and grabbing an tearing your way up the latter, and fighting for the better pay. You get equal pay by grouping and fighting those responsible for it, not fighting for a third party to step in and get it for you.

Natural Inequality is more equal than forced equality.

id also like to point out, conformity is true equality...and if thats what you want then i feel terribly sorry for you

you get treated the same if you act the same, you get treated the same if you look the same, you get treated the same if you do the same

equality issues only come up when its convenient like everything else people bitch about

and as soon as you give a little they charge for more...it doesnt and never will end, as people(some at least) will never be pleased with certain things...others are completely illogical, and the rest just do it to get what they want(selfish/greedy)

theres fortunate people and less fortunate, ugly and beautiful, fat and slim, smart and stupid, the world was not created to be equal, it was created to be different

and lastly, for the respect aspect, you dont just get respect, you earn it...guys have to fight just as much to earn respect from women

This is the main reason why, on paper, the tendency is that women make less than men. They take more time off/can\'t work late (maternity leave/doctor appts/school closures/kid sick at home/etc.). Some women don\'t want to make as much as men, they just want to supplement the family income. There is certainly no shame in working part time or being a stay at home mom.

So what should be done? Nothing. An employer should have the right to hire and fire whoever they want. Let the market decide.
