Other people minis ( Prices for commision works.)

Hi Y\'all, there is more talent here than in the egyptian empire of old. ( Talent was/is the egyptian currency.)

I know what you\'re gonna say...\" You\'re a newb, what are you talking about?\"

Anyway, I got some friends that are into WFB, the game, but they don\'t paint. So they\'re playing plastic&pewter, which is a shame.
So I have about 20 000 pts., all races confounded, at my disposition, just waiting to be painted... ( I don\'t intend on doing all of them, of course.)

I\'m actually quite pleased with the Idea, good practice, variety, fun and without the hassle of buying minis, which I can\'t afford.

The only question is, since all these are not mine, I will have to charge all this time and paint. Now, knowing that I am a newb ( My figs don\'t even cut it for tabletop, says the voters.) but that my friends think I\'m quite good ( They do not know about CMON, so shhhh...)...
What should I charge ?
I was thinking of charging character individually, commands together, and regiments as a bundle.
Maybe charging the base retail price of the model, for basic tabletop quality... working up from there.

So, what do you think?

Hi Green one Many people tend to keep their prices quiet as they don\'t want to commit themselves to a fixed price....i think anyway. I openly show a price chart on my site just so I\'m not wasting peoples time or my own with working out a quote for an order that some people might find expensive. I charge around £18.00 per standard marine. This price is excluding the actual cost of the minis and postages costs but my ratings for standard marines are in the 7.5 mark which is good for the table. If your getting below tabletop standard here on Cmon then i would suggest your prices being lower. Best of luck and don\'t worry i won\'t tell them about Cmon

18L.. Man, I could not put such a price on mine, they would say I\'m crazy and go on unpainted. However, 7.5 on CMON means more than pro, so I guess it\'s worth it.

I know some crazy gal that would do them 2$can apiece, no distinction for troopers and characters; but she is crazy.

Well, at least I know it could be profitable if I get good at it.

Do you do armies at that rate, or only single models ( At least 40k armieshave less models.) ?

I dont do too much painting for others but I use this scale (I usi=ually take payment in minis)

For table top the cost of the mini ie unit of 16 men at arms $50 (In oz dollars) as thats what the box set costs. The base only has flock or sand on it.

For characters I will charge twice the cost of the mini so approx $30 Oz.

It still depend on the xchange tate of OZ dollars, which I haven\'t checked in a while

I was thinking of bying my minis with that money, so it\'s like getting paid in minis.

It sounds silly and simple, but if you have so many people asking for work that you can\'t fit them all in, you need to raise your prices. If you don\'t have anyone asking you for work, you need to lower them.

The CMON scores aren\'t a reliable guideline to use to set prices once you can consistently rate 7.0 and above. Far too many variables. What you CAN rely on is that under 7.0, you probably won\'t make enough to be worth the time, but above that, you should.

You may want to also consider trades in figures, since that\'s your goal. Sometimes it\'s easier to get someone to buy a figure or three for you rather than the equivalent in money. Dunno why; maybe it\'s psychological.

EArkham: Yeah i reckon your right about changing your prices to help draw in more custom. I guess I\'m lucky at the moment. I think you would have to have a minimum price that you would be prepared to paint them for though. I\'ve gone down that road of doing things on the cheap before and its not something i wanna be doing again. Infact i think a hell of alot of painters undercharge customers in relation to the time taken and standard. Though these painters will get alot of custom they might find that they actually working for next to nothing. which is...not good.


I\'d rather have cash that i worked for over getting paid with more minis that i won\'t have time to paint for myself.

Alot of people don\'t actually realise how long it can takes you to paint a single mini to a decent standard....(not including a marine i painted in an hour that i\'ve mentioned on another thread BTW)
