Other people showing off your work?

I\'m not talking about other people passing your work off as their own... Thought I\'d get that out of the way first :D

I\'m lucky enough to have some lovely minis painted by some very talented people and I enjoy showing them off in exactly the same way as I enjoy seeing other peoples minis... I\'m just very enthusiastic about it all in general and love the whole scene and how supportive it is to creativity in everyone.

I\'m wondering how the actual painters feel about it all?

If you paint a commission and someone has photos of it on their site or shows it to others?

Is it easy for you to let go and be happy someone is enjoying it or do you sometimes regret selling it or accepting the commission?

As long as no one passes the work off as their own, I have no problems with it. I have seen stuff I made for companies pop up here and there in unexpected places and it always brings a smile to my face (even though, in those circumstances I rarely get credited for the paint job).

I\'m getting quite a collection of other people stuff and have just received a fantastic commission...which I can\'t wait to bring out and show people!

I wouldn\'t have a problem with it if people had my stuff.

And funny you should mention showing them off on a website etc... As I was about to start PM\'ing people and ask if I could take pics of the stuff i own and post them in a new gallery section on my site.

ive had a few people show off my minis and aslong as they state its not theres i have no problem with it and infact feel a bit honored

Im perfictly happy with people posting my work to their site as part of their collection and showing it off. A fine example of this would be the Queen of Credits. If anything it brings attention to my work and gets me enquiries about commissions.

I used to have issues with people posting other people work here in CMON accounts and getting a high rank with them..sort of like buying your spot on the ol CMON totem Pole.. but in the end its only painted toy soldiers.

But yes Exposure is good!

I\'m always happy for my stuff to be shown as long as credit is given...

It would be great if CMON had a collectors section for people to post pics of their collected works.. I think any painter that has a problem with people displaying pictures of work they have done in public a bit strange...
I have come across a few of my pieces before here and there and am always happy...

the only times it has bugged me.. well Pissed me off was when a commission customer was selling the stuff I was doing at a profit through ebay..we\'d emailed back and forth a few times haggling price only for me to find out he was selling them.....but that\'s a different thing altogether.

As for regrets letting stuff go all depends.. I used to do a lot of army style commissions and was more happy to see them go than anything..
A lately though I have been doing some more high end collectible pieces and in fairness if I don\'t feel a little regret at letting one go then I haven\'t done my best on it....

Flipping heck, thats a bit sneaky!

What would people say, for instance, you painted a model on commission for somebody and they kept it for, say, 6month. Then they sold it on on eBay or whatever.

Would that get on people\'s nerves? Or would you just let it slide?

A Collectors flag on the sumbission entry would be a great addition to the site I think... so you could upload images of minis and specify that they were painted by yourself or have a text field for the artists name.

I can\'t see it happening though unfortunately.

I think ordering commissions with the intention of selling is a little dodgy but it means that you weren\'t charging enough which is a good thing ;o)

I think commissions should always be more than the mini would go for on ebay because the requester is getting (hopefully) exactly what they want as opposed to pot luck on ebay if something you want shows up.

though I am having bags of fun at the moment bidding against \"lentricorp\" on ebay who seem to be hoovering up all the top minis at the moment... It\'s fun to get a better price for painters AND has the reward of costing a competitor collector (with obviously too much money lol ) more.

On the matter of selling minis, I fully intend to keep mine forever but if I ever encounter severe problems that require the speedy liquidation of assets... well, I\'d sell \'em!

I guess I\'d offer them back to the artist first but it\'s going to be tough when you know a mini will make a load more than you paid for it on ebay as I suspect some of mine would.

I think as long as credit is given to the painter then displaying them and taking pics is absolutely fine.
Its all one big ego trip really isnt it?

I absolutely hate to part with any of my stuff, but if I did I would like to think somebody is getting enjoyment from it.

I hope to get my Heresy angel painted up for Salute ( no chance probably ).
I really think it should turn out very nice. Something else for you to want!!

If they at least have the model for a while .. Use it ,, enjoy it then need to sell fine..But the guy in queston aimed solely to make a profit from my willingness to bend on price....

ASquidders That Lentricorp is a definite mini hoover.. Everytime he buys one of my pieces he just buys every auction I have listed at that time....mental...Your not the first person I have heard say they bid against him at times just to raise the cost...I also agree with you commissions sould be more than ebay..There\'s always the argument that you are bidding against others so it\'s a false price so commission should be lower..and the all time classic but you won\'t be paying ebay fees..(okay knock £5 off)

:D I have two of my pictures of minis I painted, here on CMON and Wyrd’s TT Contest being shown on both of the sculptors web sites as painted examples.

I still get a thrill seeing my name mention as the painter.:beer:

I would love to put up some of the stuff I have. I did raise this issue a couple of years ago and there wasn\'t any negative feedback about it, but I would prefer a collectors section where figures could still get rated but not reflect on my personal rating.

As for Lentricorp, I am not even bothering to bid on a mini I think he is intersted in as he just rolls out the $$$$!

But hey, I\'ve still got some very nice stuff in my cabinet. Latest is Adie\'s 07 GD Bronze RatOgre :beer:

If I ever SOLD anything I wouldn\'t mind in the least if someone showed it. As long as they didn\'t take credit. The problem is I never sell my stuff. I give it to people. I don\'t have any of the minis I\'ve completed since I came here.......well that\'s not technically true. I gave the \"simpsons\" yellow half ork and the dwarf to Mr C so I still have them in my box but the rest have gone off to homes in far away places. TABStudios has my ogre and Highbulp Billy has my little scene with the boy and the man.

I\'m such a softie. Someone beat some sense into me!
