OTT vs. daylight-corrected lightbulbs

I wonder what difference there is between artists lightbulbs and OTT lights?
Is it just that that OTT lights are fluorescent thereby cooler to work under or are there more differences?

Ott lights put out very little heat. For instance I have this basic model....

I work directly under this at my little paint table. Sometimes with the lamp part touching my forehead and me looking down.

It is a very clean true color light as well, which is nice. There is very little glare.

They are spendy. Luckily I got mine as a gift, but I doubt I would ever buy another.
I feel its much too dim, and doesn\'t cast enough illumination.

But I notice now they sell it claiming \'30 percent more light\'....which goes to show there were complaints about it being TOO dim (which is my complaint).

my only complaint is that I got a 13 watt model instead of an 18 watt lamp.

GE makes a cool white bulb that fits the socket, but the price difference, I\'d get the OTT.

I was at Staples looking for a bulb and realized that they carry Tensor brand. Suposedly this is full spectrum lighting as well, and about half the price of OTT brand. The bulbs are not interchangable between the two brands either.

I\'ve actually gone to my specialty lighting store, and they had OTT bulbs that fit any normal light socket, just cost about $25 a bulb. I have 2 of those in just regular arm lamps and it works great, both 15w I think. They use very little energy and create very little heat, so I really think that over their lifetime they probably pay for themselves in electricity cost (especially if you\'re in Cali with electric prices here)

Thanks Eric, I\'ll have to look into that. I use 2 lamps, one an OTT and the other is a standard bulb with a Halogen replacement. Would love to put another OTT in there as well as my lamps at the photo tent. (did someone mention that this hobby gets expensive?)
