I have to say, the people involve in the artistic side of this hobby are great and it makes me glad to be part of the community.

(i can not make that statement about all the people involved in the gaming side only)

I have noticed the competitive gamers are a bit..."intense" with their views. I am always shocked by the angry, derogative comments over at BOLS. So much so, that I don't really visit as much as I used to. If I do visit, I rarely comment or read the comments as there is a lot of bad Juju down there.

Dakka Dakka and Warseer also have alot of bad Juju on them and a rarely venture on to those sites.
The community on here is one of the best around for being helpful and its a good way to show off the artistic side of the hobby.

As someone who actually does the majority of their painting AT work, I've run into plenty of folks not in the hobby. Most of the time, while they don't "understand" the appeal of it and may actually be a bit dismissive of the actual figures (called orks, trolls, or even dolls at one point), they do respect the actual painting (usually with the "how do you do that?" or "I could never do that" kind of comment). I don't generally show my work off to people that haven't expressed an interest, but I don't hide it either.

I'm lucky enough that I can paint at my desk on lunch or while waiting for the next promo. I work in a creative field though and people just go "my goodness the creativity just pours out of you non stop doesn't it? " I don't really have to hide it. Some of my relatives are mildly dismissive of it but that's about the worst I have run into in my adult life.
