this is a warning to anyone thinking about casting in whight metal/ pewter.....

make shure there is no!!! moister in ur mold, even if u think its dry, check again... i had the full rath of this....

as u can see from the destruction, its no laughing matter, i have several nasty holes in my flesh now......

this stuff is extremally hot:flame: and hurts like hell.... luckily this was the downstairs kitchen whitch we hardly use at-all.... so damage to furishings is no worry....

Worked at a fishing lure factory at a lead injector while I was in school. Had a mold mis-mate on me and hot lead came shooting through and hit me. That is a burn I\'ll never forget.

Water in the mold will turn to steam very fast (explosively) and the steam bubble will push the lead back out the mold as you found. Hope nothing is permanent or scarring. See a doctor and make sure you got all the white metal out. Don\'t need heavy metal poisoning to top off the burns. Full face shield, heavy apron and gloves are a must when dealing with molten metals.

Why was there moisture in the mold? What is the mold made of? Ever consider casting with resin?

What percent of the white metal is lead? All of those utinsils around there need to be separated from food prep usage. Just a thought, but I always used a camp stove outdoors (on the patio or in the garage) so that there was no gettting lead into any of the food area.

i dont think there is much lead in it, it burnt to my clothes, burning me but not passing through the cloth too much... the mould is made from miliput white... the mould was wet as i was douing fast batch production and rapidly cooling the metal after it had solidofied so i could make another cast... and it cant be resin as im making livery badges for my re-enactment group, so they have to be pewter....

I\'ve told the story before about how I had a small, very sharp, circular saw in my dremel going at speed and slipped, dropped the dremel but caught it by the blade. YOUCH
