OZ bushfires

I\'ve not heard anything from anyone I know in Sydney. There are fires in Lane Cove which is in Sydney. 46 degrees in melbourne, now thats HOT.
I drove through the edge of a bushfire in the Victorian alps once, it was incredible, huge columns of smoke and vast areas looking like some sort of moonscape only with burnt trees.

The bad fire is around King Lake north of Melbourne where about 63 have died. the fire front is a few hundred kilometeres long now and it will be burning a few more weeks yet. There are several other fires which have claimed lives. One in the Latrobe Valley has killed a dozen people and has damaged the wires leading from the power plants to the city, with one fire near Loy Yang.
Either way these are the worst bushfires in Victoria\'s heistory with 93 dead. There are several areas we haven\'t gone to yet but the warnings are that the toll will rise. I personally can\'t think of anyone I know who lives at Kinglake, but did work in the latrobe Valley. My old workmates will be finding what that fire has left behind.
Hopefully this summer hasn\'t got many more days like Saturday. 46 degrees C (115 Degrees F) in the city, and up to 47.5 degrees C at some points with winds of up to 90kph. A bad as these fires have been the Macedon Ranges and the Dandenongs weren\'t touched. We don\'t want the arsonists to get more chances to murder people.

Even worse, there are arseholes going round RELIGHTING fires that have taken hours to put out and claimed lives! Unbelievable. I was gobsmacked when I heard it on the news....

You should\'ve seen the interview yesterday night on Channel 10 news at 5pm - they brought in a forensic psychologist, who said that for some people, the urge to light fires is like the urge to urinate. The worst bunch of the lot are those who measure the damage they cause by the number of people they kill (!).
An interesting insight. Does make you sort of realize that not all of them are fully under their own control, but there are some seriously bad hats out there.

As mentioned above those of us in Southern California feel the pain that fires can bring. Although here the highest the temperature got during the last round of bad fires was probably around 90 degrees fahrenheit.
I can\'t imagine how hellishly scary an Australian bushfire would be, and what could possibly cause someone to want to start one. My heart truly goes out to any and all affected by these fires.

My deepest condolences to the families involved. I hope that justice is served to those who started (or restarted) these fires.
I can feel the pain of the high temperatures, but thankfully there is not much growing here to fuel fires. I can\'t imagine how terrible it must be seeing one\'s home and surrounding landscape consumed by fire.

The cool change that came through on Saturday worsening the fires has stayed with us. Temperatures haven\'t reached anywhere near Saturdays. Unfortunately we are still getting lightening strikes and the wind is still pretty strong.

I\'ve decided to postpone, my Inca appeal for the moment, and donate the money raised and future auction sales to the Bushfire Appeal.
I trust those who have donated will understand, that Music Makers is no less worthy, this appeal is of a slightly greater urgency

It\'s just terrible.
We have had some very dry summers during this last decades and the result has been wildfires. There is something very terrifying with waking up in the early morning with the smell of burning wood and realising the \"fog\" outside is really smoke... nothing that compares to this in magnitude though.

yeah its pretty bad here but its good to see all the support. Ive heard that the death toll has now reached above 180 and they are expecting it to reach 230. There are still a number of fires that are yet to be under control, and it wont help that there will be a wind change in a day or two that could see two of the biggest fires joining up. (they are currently 18km away from each other)

Does anyone know if California Forestry guys are going over to help? We got some of the most experienced crews in the world here, it would be a shame if they didn\'t help.
