P3 Paints

Hey all,

I'm just about to order some P3 paints since I need to get a bottle of Radient Platinum and I'm just wondering if you's could help me with picking out some "essential" paints from there range.

So what I really want to know is are there any red, yellow and white paints that people would recommend picking up to compliment the citadel range? Along with some cool colours that they might have that would be handy to pick up.

Thanks alot,
Chris

I have a good stack of their mag, alot of excellent painting articles that combine paints in new and interesting ways. But be warned, u want to run out and buy ALOT of paints

I've only got two P3 paints - Menoth White Base and Battlefield Brown. This is a bone type colour (but less green than GW's Skull White) and a nice brown colour (Scorched Brown without the purple/red hue). Personally, I wouldn't be without either now.

hmmh looking at what I'm ordering,

sanguine base + highlight,
menoth base + highlight,
radiant platinum
platnium it may be just better value to pick up the menoth box and a bottle of platinum.

Their white was often lauded so I picked that up, and it is good. While shopping for that I browsed the rest of the range and got lucky seeing Coal Black. It's really a dark turquoise, perfect for highlighting black. I have some of the metallics too, but they didn't really rock my world, I had to wait for the Vallejo Model range to tip me over with their splendid metallics.

Coal black is my favorite too. I do like their skorne red I think it has a little hint of orange in it. Ember orange can be used as a first highlight then heartfire as the second highlight to their red I then use there red ink to blend them in. The ember orange is more of a true orange. Also the red ink is more of an orange red too compared to Andrea red ink. As a group they pull of a nice red. Still working on what I like in my shadows for the red.
Jack bone is a little darker then bleached bone.

i picked up a pot of their ember orange to test - it sucked. thats the only one iv tried but iv heard that overall their bright colours, red orange and yellow looks washed out and lacking vibrance. heard also that their metallics suck. other paints in the range (especially umbral umber), browns, green and blues are all good.

I'm also a fan of Coal Black. You can really do a lot with it. I painted this tank by just lightening it up with white:

I think I have all of their browns as well. None of them really duplicate anything in the Citadel line (at least, not yet. We'll see when the new paints come out.).

Menoth White Base

I love this color, but there is something seriously wrong with it chemically.

For some reason this color dries as I paint it, and leads to super chunky finishes. This is thinned with flow improver/dry time extender even.

Maybe I just got a bad bottle though.

I bought the Coal Black, and a couple of other colors.

One thing I noticed is that, when applied and used on a wet palette, the pigments seem to separate from the paint? I have never had that problem with any other brand, but I fear this might happen because P3 uses liquid pigment. Anyone have any ideas?

as others said: the menoth reds, menoth whites, coal black, cryx base/hl are really good to use with other brands.

as for their metallics: forget them, they are not really good (well not for the metallics I tried, among them the platinum). Just for for the VAC metallics or even for the V-liquid range. For metallics nothing beats those atm (among gw-p3-vallejo and similar, there are some better metals, but all need chemicals I don't want to use in the room)
