Paint Aid Ogre Butcher

Hey guys, I have just posted the pics of the Ogre Butcher I painted for Paint Aid. Its the first proper cork-style base that I have painted, and I think it really makes him stick out when placed next to the other ogres.

Not a bad job, but the first of the two pieces had a little more to it for some reason. Still, a nice piece. I\'ve noticed the backs are quite plain on these pieces, so I\'d say a good call on the fleur-de-lys. 7.5+ :)

I like him quite a bit, especially the bruised purple color used for some of the shading.

The Union Jack flag on your sig (back view) is very cool too.

Great addition to a worthy project.

I likes it....

...He\'s very menacing, and the gobbets of blood give a really sickly feel,I\'m loving all the gore splattered pieces around at the minute, nice and dark! The skintone has a nice sickly pallor too,and I\'ll echo the commets about the Fleur De-Lys,great touch. With his man boobs and hair he looks a little effeminate, but don\'t tell him though or I\'ll have to use fatal flying feet style and run awaaaay........! lol;) Great work :D

Bleeding little show off! ;)

Nice one Peter, and I too do think that the face is somewhat \"effeminate\" in comparison to the other ogres.
However it\'s still a \"Burglars dog chewing a Wasp!\" :D

All have to say is don\'t let the women close to you know this is what your compairing them to as feminine qualities...or they may get...\"butcher\" on you.

looks good Peter!

I think the model may be holding you back a bit, as it seems a bit, well, lumpy. It\'s not something you can help, but regardless, the overall effect suffers....This is just my opinion, though. I\'m sure some people like the butcher models. :)

As for other critiques, well, I\'m not so sure. I gave this an 8, but to get a nine from me, I think the layering would need to be improved in places. That\'s one of the biggest factors I look for when I vote.

The blood could also do with some work... Maybe some finer splatters, and some thin washes would help?

Anyways, it\'s a great miniature, and I hoped that helped. :)

Hmmmm......I couldn\'t think of anything wrong with it, since you wanted a critique, and I agree with Nelson that some models just have limits, especially if you don\'t convert them, or do something crazy. I gave it a 9 and it looks great, so don\'t get me wrong. A great addition to the army.:)

P.S. Bummer, 7.6. Very harsh voters!!!:(

Great work. I\'m a fan of the skin tones and the limited palette. For some reason, I\'m particularly fond of the pants and the boot, both of which look nice. In terms of criticism (since you asked!), I would recommend adding some discolouration around the wounds / piercings. Perhaps some light glazes with pinks, reds, and purples would work.

All things considered, great work.

Cheers,

No worries :)

I know you\'ve been working hard on the whole affair and it seems a little rushed in comparison with your first piece. You\'re overstretching yourself Pete! As mentioned by another person here somewhere on this thread, the layering isn\'t as good as previous pieces but, quite clearly, you\'ve got a lot on your plate. Therefore it just shows through in the painting. Your previous form shows you for a better painter than this model, but if this is now your average you should be pretty happy lol. Voted something like 7.5-8 myself in the end (the post on the image shows the 7 part of that but you knew my score). I hope all of this gets finished soon so you can get back to fun-time painting mate. Happy paint days is what you need :).

It is like you are paying hommage to the ogres of old with all those wild clothes they had. Your color scheme fits that concept to me as bang on. Subtly humorous- to me you got it man.:D

well, i must admit i don\'t like this sculpt, but it\'s not your fault right?

ao, i\'m just voting for the paintjob and the base: IMHO it\'s a full 8, maybe not a 9 but quite close to it.

the base looks good, maybe it lacks of something scenic (a piece of half-munched meat? a gnoblar? a cauldron?) but it\'s ok and i love the flag

the mini is good too, no particulat critics there...

cheers!

Critique! Woohoo!!

Cheers guys, thats more like it!

Rev, your critique is most appreciated and I have to agree that I need to get back to painting fun things - that butcher really took the wind from my sails! Fortunately I am painting a couple of fianna at the moment that I am really proud of - the NMM is working nicely ;) But that aside...

The greatest problem i had with this mini was how rough all the surfaces were - really did my head in which i think can be seen when comparing it to the smoothness the ogre irongut that I did.

I will certainly bear the blood thing in mind - you are probably right - they could do with some smearing and fine spray. And maybe a little extra on the base too... hmmm next time

Things have been pretty busy here too so maybe thats affected the whole thing, but its calming down now :D

Thanks again guys!
