Paint comparison tools

Hi

I used to have a link to a paint colour conversion tool that would take a digital Hex colour value and give you the nearest colours in a range of paints, citadel, Vallejo, reaper, foundry, testers tamiya etc.

The tool was on silicon dragon I think but the site has gone.

Anyone got anything else similar?

I'd recommend you not try to rely on one of these. Even if you can find a new tool of this sort it's almost a certainty that it won't be that good due to technical limitations.

Dakka dakka has something similar but more in the range of color comparisons, ie, citadel white is the same as xyz, etc. Cant find the link though

To echo what Einion says, years ago I wrote a vb app with all the old citadel colours in and allowed you to mix them or search for the closest. Although it was quite good (and very useful as a resource for saving paint recipes) I found that in certain cases the paint didn't turn out quite as expected, normally when darkening the colour. Basically the issue is that all of the tools about use RGB for the comparison rather than a CMYK value and RGB behaves is "light" based which acts differently.

The short answer - no I don't know any tool :D

I have this bookmarked but do not know how accurate it is, it has hex values for paints and equivalencies across different ranges... hope it's useful.

I'd take it with a pinch of salt. Just scanning down it The Fang is apparently the same as Shadow Grey and Fenris Grey and Screamer Pink is the same as Warlock Purple (they're not even similar colours!)

Edit: Looks like they've relied on the GW conversion chart which is why the new to old paints are not correct :)
