Paint drying problem

I was trying to layer a cloak on a fig using a dark blue paint as my basecoat. The shade and basecoat layer dried/evaporated before I even lifted the brush off of the mini.

Then when I started my first highlight layer (I mixed 3:1 basecoat with white + water), it left a light streak of highlight that looked like it was floating on top of the other layers.

Does anyone know what is going on with that? Thanks.

Oh, and I was just using water, no other thinners.

hm...

well not exactly sure what happened there but using a little drying retardent/extender will help you with the paint.

The weather greatly affects drying time\'s. Mabey try a different brand of paint?

FWIW that sounds about right if you\'re applying very little paint, I often watch strokes drying before my eyes.

Not sure what this looks like exactly but I\'ll hazard a guess that maybe you lightened too much so the contrast makes the highlight mix seem to float visually.
