Are there any good mini painting books out there, not for army painting but for more complex techniques/displaying painting.

I\'ve got the CMON book but I\'m looking for others. Any suggestions?

Best book I ever read on the subject, I just recently acquired, and wish I had my hands on it when I first started.

Linkage

How to Paint Realistic Military Figures by Lynn Kessler and Don Winar.

The scale they deal with is a little larger than our 28-32mm minis, but everything in the book is relevant to this hobby. I think they\'re working on 54mm mostly in the examples in the book, and honestly if you can work in 54mm you should have no problem working in 32mm and smaller.

The book covers everything in exhaustive detail from preparation to color theory to technique as well as chapters on skintones, clothing, metals, finishing etc...

I figured all of this stuff out by trial and error, researching on the internet, grilling painters for their secrets and practice over the years, but I would have been well served to just simply start out with this book at hand. If you\'re looking for a book on the subject, this is a great choice.

Theres a book produced by Foundry Paints. I forgot the title, but it has a red cover. I order it a few months ago on Amazon but they kept on extending the delivery date. So after 3 months, I just cancelled it. I think you can order from the Foundry website but it will cost an arm and a leg.

The Foundry book is definitely an army painter\'s type book that demonstrates the Foundry/Dallimore style of painting (black undercoat->shadow->midtone->highlight, each layer opaque, each layer leaving some of the previous layer showing). It\'s a good book for that style, but not for showing the semi-transparent layering or blending styles, OSL, or NMM.

The WarStore has the Foundry book.
