Paint ... patriotically!

Mr Rev! Thats going to annoy a few people lol

You are a brave man.

If I was going to paint patriotically, I\'d have to paint everything in a \'half-assed\' way with poor planning. All this after 15 pints of Carling Black Label and wearing sandles & socks. Unable to get home because the roads are too full and the public transport system is a joke. When I did get home I\'d have to run the gauntlet of Chav\'s and litter, in crap weather! Then watch bloody Corination street or that god awful Eastenders in the realisation that 1966 is the ONLY time we will win the World CUP!!!

But I\'m not bitter......

Andy, I\'m a thick-skinned so-and-so, and I just hope others are. The pic shows the fineline between racism and patriotism I suppose. And it\'s funny.

I\'m going to be in trouble am I not? Still, I stand by my foolishness .

I\'m still laughing about the pic mind. It is just too funny! Serious but funny :).

Rev: I bet the missing bit is, \'lets invade England (failing that, lets burn down their holiday cottages)\'

:D

being rather insulated...

In the heartland of america, I find this very funny.

It is kind of a rude tradition to sketch the \'adolf look\' onto pics and posters left lying about. Sometimes for variation, the old standby \'devil\'s horns and goatee\' are always good for a laugh.

But what do I know, I\'m just a farmboy from farm country...

I think the swastika is Indian, originally. They have two similar symbols, one for the rising sun and one for the setting sun. The Nazi\'s used the latter. The other one is basically the same with the \"hooks\" going the other way.

And I see no point in using them on Space Marines. Yes, it\'s an old symbol having nothing to do with racism, war or genocide. However, the symbol is forever associated with Nazi Germany and using them (in a non-historical context) will unavoidably cause a stir, no matter what the intentions are.

Anders

The swastika can be found in pretty every ancient culture in some form or other, and with various meanings. It was also used by many secret societies prior to the rise of the Nazis which added to the mysticism of it all. The history and mystical quality of the symbol is why it was adopted by the Nazis. Ah, why am I bothering? Who wants to read an essay?!

Eric, Margo, thanks for the comments. It was a rush job (3 days :( ) but it worked out ok. If you ever see one painted, please let me know. There are 125 casts so I hope at least one will pop-up painted somewhere. :)

There is a chance I\'ll be doing more of these country themed FF figures but we\'ll have to see what future brings.

@Sturmhalo, I think that was already said about the swastika in the first page of this thread. :) Did you see that article I linked to by the way? The thing about Karl May and Hitler? Really a strange connection.

I must say, on a personal level, that nothing looks more tacky to my mind than minis painted in a national theme. God, the whole point of doing the old fantasy and sci-fi is to try and get away from this miserable existence once in a while lol. I\'m not going to paint a red, green and white space marine with a dragon on it because it would depress me. Let\'s leave historics and fiction in their own worlds.

lol Or to make it more bearable by making fun of it. :D

@Margo, that\'s still 32 hours working time. The club I did this for didn\'t know anything about miniature production and were very late in askign for it. Since I had a few days off and didn\'t want to let them down I finished it as fast as I could.
By the way, I just recieved a confirmation and there will be another country-themed FF figure. Not Dutch. Wonder what sillyness I can come up with.
