Paint removing with household materials?

I am at this point converting an old Deathwing terminator into Dark angels commander Azrael, though the Torso i want to use they don\'t make any more but i have it, its made of pewter and i primed it years ago when i was still learning to spray prime so its not done that great.

I was wondering if there is a household product ( EG oven cleaner) i can use to clean it of all the old paint, or anything else i can find at the house being that im low on cash at the moment and really want to start working on it!

Any feedback would be welcome.

I\'ve had good luck with EZ Off oven cleaner (not the low odor stuff either).

But the best I\'ve used so far is Paint Stripper.

Depending where you are, Simple Green cleaner in the US works pretty decent as well. I think it needs 24 hours of soaking though.

I\'m a huge fan of brake fluid. Cheap and easy, just leave it in tuperware overnight with the mini soaking and use an old toothbrush to brush off the old paint the next day

Yep Brake fliud strips paint off readily enough.
However in the UK it is not legal to dispose of it in normal household drains, whereas Dettol is.

OOps, in that case i\'m as guilty as hell :D

I\'ve just put a bunch of minis in 750ml of detol for a few hours soak, mostly metal spacewolf characters and some old GW long oop stuff including an RT bike with rider.

I have what must be 100s of minis in need of stripping, just wondering how many minis do you guys do in one go?

Wow, you know... i can\'t believe i didn\'t think of using nail polish remover!!!

I used the Nail polish remover after a 30 min soak in the nail polish remover. A nice old toothbrush worked really well. Thanks for the advice!

Depends on the size of the minis and the size of the jar I\'ve got to soak em in.

Depends on what I\'ve screwed up.lol
Usually it\'s one or two mini\'s at a time, Ebay purchases etc.

Chinese takeaway cartons filled with minis will work as a good tray for the Dettol just pour in until all covered. Cover the top with Cling film (Ceranwrap) to reduce the smell put to one side and leave overnight. A friend on mine redid his whole 25mm Roman legion like this, still took him a month to repaint it.

I\'ve never had to strip more than two things at one time. But then I don\'t do armies :)
