Paint Stripping

yes yes can of worms every 1 knows use brake fluid or simple green rable rable rable but hear me out! this isn\'t for a mini its for a car part.. friend needs to strip a plastic peice and i already told him the good ol simple green or brake fluid.. he\'s already tried oven cleaner.. and im not sure how well the break fluid will work due to the fact it is probally automotive paint. any one have any ideas aside from these two that will strip the paint but not eat the plastic just incase the good ol brake fluid doesnt work?!

Good question, Not a Can of worms at all.
It may be that you will need to get a test piece of similar material and test in various things that we use to strip paint with.

What part is it?, and do you have a picture?

unfortuantly i dont know what it is and i dont have a picture all i know is it is a bit smaller than ones fist and somewhat curved so can easily be put in a bowl to soak overnight

personally, wouldn\'t bother stripping it
If it\'s that mall a piece I\'d just rub it down with 1200+ wet & dry to \'feather\' out what paint is already there, making sure there are no sharp edges, then primer that up.

once that is dry, rub down with 4000 W&D
then between coats rub down with 6000 or finer if you can get it

Sounds like a job for Castrol Super Clean.

But I think Mick\'s solution is certainly worth considering - lots of accident damage is repaired and resprayed in just that way.

...don\'t forget to use plenty of water when you are rubbing down

I use fiary power spray poor half a bottle in a tupaware stick the model in metal ones come back 30 mins later and you will be surprised with the results.

Unless it\'s rusty I\'d just roll with this. But regardless of what type it is, brake fluid should cut through it like a flame through wax. There\'s never been any paint I\'ve seen that it couldn\'t, and I have seen it take the paint off a car. Don\'t ask about that though.
