I have a repainted D&D Miniatures Yuan-Ti Halfblood Sorceress up for auction; not a display level piece but she should look great amongst stock D&D gaming pieces:

Nice job. I\'ve recently started collecting D&D minis and have considered re-painting a few of them. Did you strip the mini first, or just paint over the stock job? If you did strip it what did you use?

This is only the second pre-painted plastic miniature I have worked with, so I am no expert, but I just primed and painted over it. I tried stripping the other one I did, can\'t remember the substance involved but it did absolutely nothing. The only thing I noticed when doing this one was the primer rubbing off more easily than usual when I held it by the base, but since I sealed it and have handled it nothign has rubbed off. The level of detail is so shallow on these anyway that painting over the existing paint really can\'t make that much of a difference.

Thanks for the reply.

Have you had any problems with paint chipping? I worry on the soft plastic, on items like swords or small limbs that paint would chip if/when the limb weapon got bent?

Well, I don\'t game so I haven\'t had any experience with handling them to see. The other one I did was sold, and I never heard any complaints about paint wearing off so I am hoping that means it works out ok! :)

Sounds good. If I ever do paint one of these guys up, I\'ll let you know if I do have any problems. Unfortunately I never seem to actually paint anymore and if I do I have at least 3 minis planned before I \'touch up\' one of my D&D minis.
