Painting a red head!

Im trying to paint red hair, but unfortunately can\'t figure out a good way to do it.

Im looking for a brownish reddy shade (as opposed to slayer ginger :D ) for a female model, so quite soft tones if possible.

Any help would be great thanks :)

If you want a chestnut color start with a very dark red and wask with a very thinned down brown. Then do your regular progression thru terra cotta but make sure you end with a tan instead of an orangey yellow or it will look too brassy

Think as though you\'re doing a light brown colour and glaze as mentioned.

You can highlight all the way up to bleached bone for lighter reds (Strawberry blondes)

And shade way down to scorched brown for a more auburn colour.

Remember to make the flesh slightly paler than usual and if you want extra cuteness - FRECKLES! :D:D:D

Now those are good sturdy, child-bearin\' hips!

She could fire \'em out like howitzer shells :p

I\'d have quite dark under the rim of the hat (Well duh :p) and then medium tone whatever tone u want, and then streak a few lighters tones in - with top highlights on the very tips and edges.

lol yea, I havn\'t actually started the hair yet, was just putting up to try and match the skin tone to hair colour suggestions (if that makes sense)

Iv done the skin a bit warmer and not as pale as a full blown ginger, which is why I was aiming at a more brown tone.

You do like the under dress females done you? If I ever get you in a mini exchange I\'ll know just what to send you! You\'d be in heaven! And they have chains on too! :D

I can\'t find where I read that a long time ago, but it really picks it up. Notice how hair tends to reflect and shine in lots of tiny spots. This helps recreate that.
(use silver for blondes)

Okay, I\'ve looked the thread over a couple times and this is the first time I noticed what you drew on the shield. Lovely! :D

Bit demented, but I like it.

Just use some blood red and then sunburst yellow for highlights. Trust me matty it will look fabulous.
Would I lie to you.

The reds I used for the same mini (not posted here yet)! Short explanations to GW colours if you don\'t have the VMC\'s

VMC cavalry brown (looks like dark flesh almost)
shades: shadow grey + VMC german camo blackbrown (very dark brown less red then schorched brown)
highlights: VMC cavalry brown add bronzed flesh and then add VMC light flesh (very pale skin colour like white with a little dwarf flesh in it)

I\'ll post the results in a while! ;)
