Painting/Airbrush help

Just pulled my airbrush out again and got it ready to paint some minatures, problem is i've not used it on any model soldiers before and i have a few questions. I've got loads of Blood angels to paint and i've got the right colour of red im going to paint them (1:1 mix of Bloody red - gory red Vallejo Game colours.) Shall i airbrush the paint onto the model that has been under coated? Black or White? Want them darker than usual but like the colour of the stormraven thats being reeased soon.

Shall i undercoat, paint mechnite red then spray with the mix of bloody red and gory red? And after i've got the red on what wash shall i use? Shall i put the wash into the recesses or all over then tidy up? and then highlight with blazing orange? This needs to be quite fast, dont want to be taking too much time on the actually red i have a lot of models to get through.

My airbrush is an Aztek A4809 <- would that do the job of basecoating?

Cheers

Yes to everything! Since you want them darker use a black primer. Then use your airbrush and build up from darker color to lighter colors and just focus the lighter colors in smaller areas. This will give the minis a focal point wherever the lightest colors are. Once all the colors are on, go over the entire mini with a glaze of a medium red color to help tie all of the color volumes together. From there touch up any areas you want with a different color by brush and you're good to go. Any airbrush will be good for basecoating. Good luck!

The baal red wash would probably work the best. They are meant for that specific purpose. Just water them down a bit so that the effect is more subtle and just wash until you achieve a look you like. But wait for each wash to dry before applying the next layer :)

Good news: you don't need to get close for this - for zenithal highlighting you can spray from 20cm or more.

And yes, your airbrush is more than good enough for doing this kind of thing.
