Painting Chaos?

Hey all, long time no see.

I came by for some advice. I'm painting a chaos sorcerer (wild sorcerer) for a friend for his D&D character. I'm going to go with this mini, I think:

or possibly this one:

I'll be doing some simple conversions, to cut out the death imagery (no skulls) and giving him a staff and a dagger.

My real question is: do you have any suggestions on a way to paint chaos? Or perhaps chaotically, but still make it look good? Do you know of any examples (photos) you can refer me to?

Please realize that this is a D&D definition of chaos, not a Warhammer definition.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd base it off of the scythe guy myself, it was cooler in my eyes.
But you say DnD Chaos, do you mean chaotic good, neutral or evil?
I say the colours are dependant on the personality of the character, for me the colouring would theme like this:
Chaotic good: somewhat muted bright, "kind" colours
Chaotic neutral: No real definition through alignment, descent and social class being the deciding factors.
Chaotic evil: Bright warm colours and muted cold, not necessarily tasteless but in a disorderly fashion.

With it being a wild sorcerer you don't have to worry about schools or things like that, he can basically look like the average farmer Joe and still come across as convincing, it's more a matter of character theme than actual alignment when it comes down to it.

Here's a pic that feels rather neutral, verging on good:

And here's a more evil one in my mind:

Here's another chaotic evil one:

Thanks Chrome, for the ideas. I like that first CE image. I was thinking of doing something similar with some greenstuff for hair, on the figure with the scythe, as you suggested.

Sorry, I guess I didn't define what I mean by chaos very well. I didn't mean alignment (he is neutral, actually) but his form of magic. In 4e, a wild sorcerer creates sometimes random effects with his spells. So what I mean by chaos sorcerer, or wild sorcerer, is a magic user who has aspects of his personality, and magic, that are uncontrollable and random, sometimes for the good of the party, and sometimes not.

My only idea at this point is to paint him in neutral colors, perhaps beiges, and then shade him with glazes of complementary colors, reds/greens, blues/yellows, etc. I would want to be careful so that he doesn't come off as clownish, if that is possible.

Does that make sense? Any other ideas?
