Painting Class.....Skin up with Klute

@Vincegamer.........that looks fine.The face details will make a big difference.

@Sanjay.......looks fine to me.As you are using very thin glazes that just alter the colour underneath you can go a lot lighter for the next layers.Elf flesh/white I reckon.

@Supervike.......excellent.They look just as smooth as the one I did.

This is my Inquisitor Grundvald bust (well, the head anyway). The colour transitions aren\'t as smooth as I\'d like them to be, I think I rushed it a little. The left eye is being a bit difficult too.. :flame: Please, I need advice. P.S sorry for the poor picture, it\'s a still taken from a video camera.

@Enterfaith......looks great.Pick out the lips with a deep flesh colour with a tiny hint of pruple.

@Supervike.....yes the last step is posted.Just tying up loose ends now.You can of course use the same technique for clothing,nmm etc.

I\'ve been working on the skin of my barbarian now and I have a question about final details that didn\'t come up with your example:
How do you suggest painting bulging veins?
The barbarian has these huge veins bulging out on his hugely bulging biceps.

p.s. With the chick I have come to what I find to be the hardest part of painting a mini - color selection.
So, I\'d appreciate suggestions for the color of her bikini. My wife has already requested I make her a red-head.

@Vincegamer........a while ago I was painting the viens on that type of figure freehand and then galzing skin colour over to represent then skin.
What I would do with sculpted veins now is to do the skin first the use a blue or grey glaze to paint the veins.Keep building up the colour until it is the look you want.

Bikini colour.If shes ginger red then I would go for a green bikini.If she is red then a brown,gold or red.The gold would go well with ginger too.
Same thing with eyes.Red hair,green eyes.Black hair,black eyes.Blonde hair,blue eyes.

Klute, I was wondering: how long did it take you to do your mini for this? I know that painting\'s not a race, different people work at different speeds, that the time a mini takes is however long it needs to look good, etc. But simply out of curiousity, how long did you spend painting her?

wasn\'t happy with it anywyas as i did the lighter glazes on it, and tried to fix it and now it\'s just bad

@Starfyre.......dont be sorry mate,it takes a lot of practice.Just keep digging away at it.

@Lahatiel.......hard to say exactly but from basecoat to finished skin(including eyes) was about 2 hours.Then the next sitting I did hair,make-up and other details like nails and the anklet,finishing the figure off totally.Another 2 hours.
Then I sculpt and painted the base another 2 hours.
Prepping the figure (smoothing mold lines and priming) 1 hour.
So the skin itself 2 hours.
Figure from packet to camera 7 hours. (about)

To be honest though if I were to sit down and do it start to finish it would take about half that.I was stopping all the time to write down mixes and take wip photos with this one.4 hours would sound about right.

There is definitely more depth to the skin.
It could be smoother though.It looks a little grainy.Practice and experiment with your mixes to get the paint as thin as posssible for the galzes while still keeping a bit colour.

Etherion......If what I have done has helped 1% then I am happy
I would never expect anyone to pick up a new technique and master it right off,me included.
I knew I would have a slight problem with people using different paints and everyone will have to experiment.But like you say the technique is what matters.

Well back in the original thread, MaleusMiniArt said he\'d start a Painting Pythia class when Klute was done (unfortunately I have zero interest in Pythia of Azel but I\'ll watch anyway).
When will Klute be done? I don\'t think everyone has shown a final pic yet (come to think of it, I haven\'t done a final yet. I\'m done with the class bits and just need to do her clothes etc.)

Well, I\'m basically finished with the stuff concerning the class, but as you can see, there\'s quite a lot of work left on it still.

I\'ll be doing some final highlights on the skin once the rest is finished, but it\'s basically done. It was a great deal of fun trying someone elses method and I have adapted some of it into my own. Thanks Mark for doing this!

Everyone........I regard the tutorial over really.I keep popping in to tie up loose ends with people posting etc.

Im on compiling the tutorial for the article section,shouldn\'t be long.
It might be easier to follow to with the steps being alongside each other.
