Painting Desert Base tips?

hi im just about to start painting a desert style base and wanted to know if anyone had any good tips on colors ect?

its my base from my wip actualy so just wanted some tips on painting and what to use for long dead grass ect

the grass that BPI used on the base is great for long dead grass.
Woodland Scenics is the product I'm most familiar with:

Sandy bits.
Wash and drybrush will give it lots of depth. (dark red brown wash with a sandy brown drybrush for a clay dessert, change the colors up to suit you.)

Hi,

to make tall grass you can use plumbers hemp.

About the sand color, on my latest diorama (http://www.coolminiornot.com/258482) I used a mix of kommando kaki, desert yellow and a bit of snakebite leather, drybrushed with kommando kaki and ivory (vallejo) and finally I've added some sand colored pigments to make it more dusty.

Hi,

to make tall grass you can use plumbers hemp.

Disposable painters brushes can be used for stiff cord grass (wheat straw, etc.)

Pastels and chalks are a great way to weather for the dusty sand envronment.
