Painting dirty black robes

Hello all, its been a while.

I ran across a simple conversion in White Dwarf #320 (page 136). I\'d link to a photo but I don\'t have one. In any event, it is a Mordheim Witch and she has dirty black robes. I\'m still relatively new to painting, but I think I\'ve got a decent grasp of painting black. The question is, does anyone have a good recipe for dirty black robes? Up to this point, I\'ve highlighted black robes with Chaos Black up to Codex Gray. What do you think?

Thanks,
Mark

I thinl you should paint the black robe at first, then you could use those black things you get in a blister pack, drybrush it and then dot it over the area you want dirty. it would be good to use like... bestial brown or schorched brown. another idea is just to dot it right on the the pencil, but that might destroy the pencil... and you can ofcoarce paint the dirt on it.. it takes practise.. just keep tryig.
hope that helps :)

That\'s a nice clean style yo\'ve got there, keep it up. You may want to have a look at this article on CMON:

That is a pretty good article. Thanks for the link.

So, do you believe that I should highlight up to Codex Gray and then apply the \"dirt\" effect, or should the highlights on the folds of the robe include some brownish color? Bestial Brown and Scorched Brown are good suggestions.

Thanks,

No problem

It\'s a personal and confidence thing really. If its your first real go at this, I personally would go for the dirt on after all highlight finished. The top highlight should shine through it to naturally highlight it anyway. Also to me it looks more natural that dirt is on top

Try it on a non-important mini first rather than curse if its not perfect on the one you spent time highlighting
