Painting Eldar...

gold cloak

I am painting my Eldar in a red and gold Iron Man-esque theme, and I cannot get the gold highlighted properly! I used a base of GW Shining Gold highlighted w/ GW Burnished Gold, and it looks like @$$!! I found this mini, http://www.coolminiornot.com/index/whatm/GW/id/137360 and this is exactly what I am going for in my gold. Can anyone tell me how it was done? I contacted the painter, just waiting for a return.

Thanks,
~GC :cussing:

Try doing a watered down Flesh Wash after your gold basecoat.

Try adding Chainmail to your Burnished Gold for subsequent highlight mixes.

Personally, I don\'t think watered down Flesh Wash will work....it\'ll be too light. I think if you watered down either Brown Ink or Chestnut Ink over your gold, it\'ll help. But it\'s up to you, experiment with all three if you want and choose what works for you.

P.S.- before you paint the Shining Gold on, paint a base coat of a brown like Bestial Brown first. Then paint the gold, wash, re-paint, highlight. The gold doesn\'t cover very well unless you do it too thick, so the brown should help alot.

Second both of those, brown base is definitely more friendly.

For gold I usually start from a VMC bronze these days and work up through copper, old gold, ink wash, gold and finish with tiny touch of mithril silver to very highest points.

If I want it duller I stop at old gold

I\'d sugest reading Jakob Neilsons guide on painting mettallics. There\'s certainly some interesting stuff there.

Nice one Angus that\'s a cool tutorial. Never tried the purple shade wash with gold. Have to give it a go.

Ya the purple makes it really dark. The orange glaze is pretty essential though. When you only highlight with mithril silver it looks too well silver. Just have fun with it and if you have any questions just ask away. Thats what we\'re here for!
